Just curious if anyone recognizes what premium this WaJo might be from. I would love if there was a site dedicated to premiums LOL
If there is, please let me know.

I answered your question in another thread. Not sure I nailed it, but these are well known to the hobby. I don't know if I'd call them "premiums," which to me are byproducts of the promotion of other things. I think these were just issued on their own, and there should be a checklist somewhere.

I’m sorry. I didn’t see anything in the other one but the navigation has been somewhat weird for me. I’ll try and find a checklist out there and if anyone know of where it can be found it would be appreciated. Know roughly the year or years of distribution?

No, but if I had to guess, I'd say late 40s to early 60s or some chunk thereof. I seem to remember at least one thread here about them, but I would have no clue how to find it.

I come across them just frequently enough to forget what they were since last time I saw them I have to start from square one figuring out what they are all over again.

+1 ...It doesn't look period to Walter's era...
.

You are right about that Leon. Whenever I find stuff like this I try and do reverse image searches and other methods to track down some info. Maybe I'm just bad at it, but this one didn't pop up any results in whatever I looked up. So when all else fails try net54....someone on here usually knows the answer.

I don't think that the checklist for this set will ever really be complete. They are like McCarthy postcards, uncatalogued examples (if somebody is even keeping track of known players) show up from time to time.

I had the original artwork used to create these photos. The company that did them in the 1940's would use news service photos and then paint the names onto them to create the final product. Like the N173 cabinets, not everybody in the set was a star, there were a lot of "common" players so my guess is that the stars are easier to find as people would have ordered them and lesser players are going to be more scarce.

Any idea of the company name or method of distribution, Scott?

I would love to know more too. Awesome that Scott is familiar with them. I have seen some great images that I avoided because I could not get a read on the era. I was guessing late 40s to early 50s based on some that I saw that were in frames from that era. They typically sell for very little.

Released by National Sports Photos Inc. ca.1940s here is an original mailing envelope with the advertisement and a Ruth/Lou

The checklist is immense and certainly impossible to complete today. Over 2400 according to the ad.

Also, 12 images for $5 seems pretty steep. That would be over $100 today. So I'm not sure these would've been flying out the door.
