Tinker, Evers and Chance

I am mostly a 50's and 60's collector, but as a Chicagoan, I have always been interested in the great Chicago teams from the early 1900"s. Tinker, Evers, and Chance, of course, were among the most well-known of the old Chicago players, and I have been thinking of getting cards of this trio of bear cubs to display in my office. Which ones would you recommend I get?

why not finish it in one card? It's even in the correct order from left to right!

Excellent picks James!
I really like the t205 trio and the t202.
I like how the t205 trio goes well together with color and matching set coordination.
The t202 is nice too!

Seconded for the Tinker/Evers/Chance T202. I'm not an oversized card collector (though I have a few), but this one in particular is too on-the-nose to ignore.

It's also rather reasonably priced for a card with 3 HOF'rs over 100 years old. You can get a nicely presenting mid-range example for $1000-ish. It was about half this price pre-2000, but I'm not sure we're going back anywhere near those prices anytime soon.

If you go this route make sure you get the Tinker/Evers/Chance version. There's versions with just 1 or 2 of the 3 out there. You're looking for the exact card image linked above.

Also, a notable amount of T202s have a bit of variation with color print ghosting from not being well lined up. If that would bother you check the image carefully before bidding/buying.

Well, if we're talking "display" I don't think any "cards" can beat the good ole' m113 posters, unfortunately there isn't a Tinker version, maybe throw in his m101-2? :

There are some good options available to you. When I pulled my Tinker, Evers & chance trio together I opted for the T206. It took me a while but have always liked the grouping. Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to start looking at what's for sale at the AH's.

You could always go with the "variety" approach.

Oh, these are the saddest of possible words .......... I don't have a Hindu Chance .......... :p ...... Hope it's "OK" to have Steinfeldt included ....... ;)

Can't go wrong with any decision, imo.

Fun, fun, Scott

Perhaps not a first or second or third choice, but at least the E91A Tinker and Evers have a pretty decent facial resemblance. The Chance gets a little tricky due to it being a side view, but as seen in comparison to his T206 batting card, the structure of his face seems similar.

Too many people (imo) like to chalk the E91's as generic, but many are true player representations...the E91-A's especially.

Johnny Kling for instance...

I agree! I like when the E91A/about 50% of the E91B cards have a cap on the player that shows some hair underneath it, and the pattern of the hair matches exactly as seen in their photo. Even in the below E91A Seymour example that pictures him with a cap pulled really low, notice the hairline retreat above his right ear seen on the M116 and E254 images that is duplicated just below the brim of his hat on his E91 card.
