Check the seller ebay feedback....has scammer written all over it...cant believe someone would even bid on it.

BobbyStrawberry 02-09-2024 11:38 AM

It says the year it was manufactured was 1909. Doesn't that conflict with saying it's a reprint?

Oh yeah i see that now....a bit conflicting for sure

G1911 02-09-2024 11:51 AM

"Selling as Old Reprint although it looks really good, I do not know the origin so I am selling as is!"

Scamming is never right, but whoever could be dumb enough to buy this for $150 with this description and the blatant reprint in the photo... I mean, stupidity is impressive at some point.

StraightRaceCards 02-09-2024 11:52 AM

Scammers that dupe people with reprint in the fine print really tick me off.

That being said, people really need to learn how to spot a fake before they buy a raw prewar HOF card or any card for that matter.

Best to stay with graded until then

rjackson44 02-09-2024 12:24 PM

What is that omg

jingram058 02-09-2024 12:30 PM

I seriously doubt anyone other than the seller or some shill working for the seller "bought" that. No sane person would.

I would like to think nobody actually did, but I see so many listings like this in the 'sold' filter (and not for like $1 as a novelty) on eBay that it's pretty sad :(. This one allegedly sold January 17th. via the BIN; so a shill wouldn't quite fit.

It wasn't an auction so not sure how it would be a shill working for the seller.

I like how one of the positive reviews is:

"Card arrived in timely fashion in good packing. Of course THE CARD IS A FAKE. Guarantee you every old “grail card” (Ruth/Mantle, etc) the seller posts is a forgery. Don’t be as dumb/gullible as I was and fall for this con."

Are people afraid to give negative reviews or something?

eBay has made it a PIA to leave a negative. Plus even less people care about their completely worthless feedback system than care about altered cards.

Yoda 02-09-2024 01:21 PM

What's wrong with it?

Brian Van Horn 02-09-2024 01:54 PM

85.7% feedback. Oh, that's comforting.

I would because people are stupid...

Also, see post #11 which quotes an eBay feedback from a guy who bought one like it.

If you leave a negative review, eBay will just delete it 95% of the time, so some buyers have resorted to leaving bad reviews as neutrals or positives.

Leon 02-12-2024 03:25 PM

Yes, never under estimate stupidity.

Just in the slim chance that this helps keep someone out there from buying such dreck as seen in the original post, a real beater T206 Cobb bat on shoulder card should look something like this.

Brian (real beater not mine)

Vintagedeputy 02-13-2024 03:31 AM

Sometimes I wonder if the buyer is a scammer too who buys the card at what he feels is a cheap enough price to be able to resell it again and scam someone else at a much higher price.

All aboard the Scam Train. Next stop, Purgatory, Maine.

Brian (my apologies to all Purgatorian residents on here. Of course, no mercy for those headed to Hell, Michigan)
