What Did You Pickup in February?
1 Attachment(s)
Was happy to start the month with three envelopes in the mailbox today. The Norfolk Tars played across the river from where I grew up so it's neat to add these to the collection. Otey joins the T206 Seitz I already had and the T210 Old Mill Jackson and Nimmo join the growing collection I have from that team set. Did anyone else start the month with any nice additions?

Nice Kelly! Where did you find that? I picked this up in Clean Sweep to add to my Matty collection. Tough to find! I only count 16 total graded/sold in PSA/SGC.

One of my colecting focuses is pre-War Virginia League cards from the E222, T206, T209-2, and T210-2 sets. I finally got sround to completing my T206 Va. Leaguers with this card of Shag. I'm pretty sure the writing is pencil, so I intend to improve its eye appeal by removing it from its slab, erasing the pencil marks, and getting it re-slabbed.

You should trim it too - definitely an opportunity to sharpen those corners. 😉

Happy to pick this up. I love the sharp auto, and the fact that the card was issued between '51-53 based on bottom print makes it nicer, for me....

To clarify what I said earlier in this thread about erasing the pencil marks and then re-submitting this card, I would not be looking for or expecting anything more than an "A" grade or a "1" grade from SGC. I just want a card that is more pleasing to my eye when I view it. |

I like to add cards of HOF Honorees to my HOF collection, if those guys actually PLAYED professional baseball. Recently picked up these two. My very first T207 and a slightly post-war, oddball newspaper issue.

I was able to pick up my first 19th century card for my Hall of Fame player collection - 1888 Allen and Ginter Buck Ewing
Question for those of you who are more knowledgeable than me - the SGC slab says N43, but the person I purchased from says this is mislabeled and is an N29. Is there a way to know for sure or could this be an N43 that was cut down to the size of the N29 from those sets? Just my curiosity and wondering if it is worth me sending to reslab with the correct set (if it would be N29). Thanks for any help! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...61c3cfda_c.jpgUntitled by Dylan Boll, on Flickr |

Thanks Tim and JC,
I've been on the hunt for awhile, it's about the cleanest "2" I've seen and came at a fair price. |

In my mailbox yesterday. Slowly continuing my journey on this 1935 Goudey set. Also, this is the first Greenberg in my collection. Happy to have it.

Nice pickups, Phil! Let me guess, the "big one off my checklist" is the E106 of Germany Schaefer - right? :p If nothing else, it's the most colorful of your pickups and my favorite.

Daryl, your cards proved that the theory that Mello Mint must have put the gum inside the card and then pushed up the sides, leaving creases in the middle. I once had a beautiful Wagner batting except for the creases straight down the middle.

John, there are many without the vertical crease as well. I think it’s been said that some employees may have taken Newman the Mailman’s approach and folded the cards before inserting them into the packs, while others did not. There were also “free sample” packs that were wider and didn’t need the cards to be folded in order to fit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

For many years, I have been collecting N172 Old Judge cards of players depicted with Washington. There are a few tough players that I have been unable to acquire even one pose of. One of these players is Sam Wise, who was purchased by Washington from Boston in April 1889. Well, much to my surprise, I came across a N173 Old Judge cabinet of Wise shown with Washington on eBay, and I am beyond thrilled to have won it! This is the first OJ cabinet I have ever owned, and I suspect that it is a 1-of-1.
