Looking for a rapid type card scanner similar to the Fujitsu fi-8170 Scanner but for Apple/Mac computers. Ne1 know of any? Looking for one that will scan tobacco/modern cards.

I don't know bubkiss about a rapid scanner but the Epson V600 is the best imo.

The Fujitsu one allows you to put in a small pile of cards and it scans each one really fast depositing into the box as shown in the picture.

macOS

The fujitsu data sheet says it supports macOS.

donmuth: Thanks.

The one I saw for sale on amazon said Windows only. Think I'm going to get one. Go to 2:58 in this video to see in action:

So, a machine is handling condition sensitive cards? What happens when a 100-year-old card gets stuck in the machine like when a copier has a paper jam?

I recently read that the Fujitsu fi-8170 was leaving 2 imprinted lines on the cards that it was scanning. Can you imagine scanning hundreds of your favorite cards and then discovering this new imperfection?

This will soon be a popular PSA qualifier.

Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps # 200 - PSA 3 SIM

SIM standing for Scanner Imperfection.

I think I'll continue scanning my cards the old fashioned way.

I have a friend that bought one when he decided to get rid of his collection. He used it on cards under $100. He scanned the stuff worth more than that on his old flatbed scanner. He had several thousand cards and he never had any problems.

Or a debris gets stuck on a roller and puts an impression on the entire stack.

You can (and should) take the piece that does this out

Use penny sleeves and you shouldn't have any problems.

Wow, that’s one expensive toy.

Epson V600

rdwyer 01-22-2024 05:59 PM

Thanks for all the help. From what I've read here, I have chosen not to buy.

I have a mac and use Epson 400 ii for items like postcards, photos and cards. It scans both sides and can do about 50 items a minute.

Sometimes it does not handle some dark items very well so you have to use a flatbed for those. I have an Epson v700 for that which is the best scanner for slides and negatives as well.

With the epson You can scan cards and have it leave a 2MM border on each.

The Fujitsu is a problem with Macs, I guess there is a way to make it work, but you have to use some type of workaround which is a pain.
