Do you feel like they were a little generous on the grade with the '34 Goudey?

In all honesty, no. I think they got it right based upon their posted grading criteria. In my mind's eye, I saw it as a 2.5 to 3 beforehand. Definitely not a 4 and I think 3.5 would have been pushing it a bit. I may have been able to get some of that surface dirt off but missed it prior to submission.

The very last word I'd use to describe SGC grading is "generous" when
they grade 1930s on. They are consistently harsh, actually. The Goudey
earned that 3, nice card! Trent King

The paper loss on the card bothers me. I have some Goudeys that look like 3's to me, but now might be 4's or so.

That Goudey has what appears to be paper loss around his neck.
