George Mullin (the pride of Wabash, Ind) 1909 Postcard Set COMPLETE
5 Attachment(s)
Until recently, the 7 known Postcards from the George Mullin "Billie Jones" Postcard set were, as listed on the VintageBall site:
1. At Bat 2. In Action 3. On the Bench 4. Ready for Action 5. The Tiger's Favorite (not pictured on the site) 6. Sitting on League Ball 7. Throwing Spit Ball That leaves 3 until-now (?) unknown Postcards. Why do I say that there must be 3 more (for a total of 10)? The 6/28/1909 edition of the Indianapolis Star included the following ad for the sale of Billie Jones' Postcard set of George: Attachment 604343 I am posting the 3 remaining of the set with photos below (along with the "Tiger's Favorite" referenced above). They are: 8. Little Daughter Showing Him the Pennant 9. Showing Different Positions of Throwing 10. Geo. Mullin (in a suit) Hopefully, the Tigers and Postcard fans will enjoy. Not to mention, George Mullin was a beast on the mound! There have to be more of these out there. Hopefully, more will come to light with more attention. Fantastic examples, Brad! I've been sorta watching out for anything from this set, for the "Uncle George" collection, so it's good to know 10 are now confirmed.
Morrie (no actual *known* relation, even if he does show some similarities in facial structure to Dad's side of the family =) ) |
That "Geo. Mullin - the Tiger's Favorite" is going to give me nightmares .
|
According to the ad : it looks like you could order in 100 or 1000 lots. Wonder how many were printed ?

Crazy. I think the same thing. Mullen and Mullin are interchangeable in Ireland and my family spelled it the same way back in the day. And our families come from the same area of Ireland… |

My research shows that the ad I posted was the ONLY ad for the postcards from Billie Jones. It appears the postcards were sold through the mail via a PO box. So maybe he didn't get many orders. I can find ZERO about any "Billie Jones" who was a photographer anywhere near Indiana. Very strange. Awesomely weird photos though. Brad |

I'm hoping more attention on these postcards and baseball postcards in general will result in more of these coming into circulation. By my remembrance, only THREE (?) of these Mullin postcards have been graded by PSA or SGC. Mine will be headed for grading soon. Best part about this story? These were personally owned by his battery-mate/buddy, Boss Schmidt :) Brad |
Awesome postcards! Thanks for sharing.

Player owned items are awesome....

PSA Grades Back
My OCD "required" me to get these graded. Less concerned with the grade than I am with preserving them in a slab. Anyway, here's a look at my 8 out of 10 set:
