Show 'em!! Top 5 Post-War Celebration
5 Attachment(s)
The main page has a "1st 5 HOF" thread where they post one card or collectible for each of the first five inductees into Cooperstown, so I thought we post-war folks should have a celebration of our own for the all-time greats who were trodding the basepaths during the 'Topps era.'
Simple rules: Post one card each of a quintet of the 'greatest' (whatever defines it for YOU) players from the later post-war era (say 50s through 70s). I stayed in the batter's box and went with a host of serious sluggers... Attachment 604143 Attachment 604147 Attachment 604145 Attachment 604146 Attachment 604148 |

Let's head back to the mound!
My main PC project is actually called "A Celebration of Topps - HOF Pitchers 1952 to present". With all due respect to Seaver and Carlton, here are my top 5 pre-1980 postwar aces. https://i.ibb.co/Ph7pDDh/IMG-2954.jpg |

A 1972 Topps Cloth Sticker? Nice!
The alpha and omega of postwar can only be #42: https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...kie%20RPPC.jpg I'll go with the most dominant pitchers of the era; when these two were on they were unhittable (11 no-nos between them prove it): https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...l%20Koufax.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...KFS%20Ryan.jpg Next, the best hitter of the era. Take away all of his HRs and Henry is still a 3000 hit guy. https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...e%20Rivers.jpg Last, I will go with this guy. Phenomenal player, even better human being: https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...20Clemente.JPG |

I think this might be my first, possibly second post on the Postwar side...I am primarily a Prewar collector. So this post will be a mashup of both sides of the collecting divide.
There are 9 Hall of Fame players that have regular issue cards during their playing career in sets from both Prewar (1941 and before), AND were trodding the basepaths in the Topps era (1951 and after): Lou Boudreau Joe DiMaggio Bobby Doerr Bob Feller Johnny Mize Pee Wee Reese Phil Rizzuto Enos Slaughter Ted Williams The fun thing is, the 1941 Double Play set is the only Prewar issue that has all nine of these players (the 1939-46 Exhibits include 5, while the 1941 Play Ball set includes 4). Here are my top 5 Double Play cards depicting 6 of these Hall of Famers (The Mize/Slaughter card is twice the fun at half the price). My examples are all sliced in half, just like the makers expected their sticky fingered little collectors to accomplish. Brian |

Very cool thread idea. I don't own a Mantle card, otherwise he would be here.
