myslabs.com?
Hello-
Any thoughts on buying from myslabs? It seems like a better deal for both buyer and seller than ebay. Thanks -os73 |
Yeah, definitely do it if you find a card you like there at a price you like.
|
It's actually more expensive for anything above $1k. Probstein fees are 5%, Myslabs is 6.5%
|
Been much harder to sell on there of late though. Traffic is down, and they are looking for investment money, which may not be a good sign.
I think the fees are actually 5.5% when you subtract the buyer's fee by the way. |
I like how you can "browse" ...but prices are bananas there for the most part. Sometimes an offer will work most times no. I buy like 1 or 2 slabs there a month, mostly low end.

The only fee that matters is the sum total of the amount paid by the buyer that doesn't go into your pocket. Anything else is sleight of hand. |
I've used it many many times as a seller. I haven't had a single issue.
|
Never heard of it. Perhaps they should hire a marketing person.

Last month I sold a card for $800. I kept $755.59. which is equal to a 5.5% fee. |

Either way, I am getting 94.5% of what I list it for. Given that there are no taxes (yet), it can be a good place to sell. If I sell through an auction house, it will be challenging to keep as much of the total cost (especially if there are taxes). And if I consign to Probstein or some other ebay seller, I MAY get as much, more or less. There is no guarantee either way. |
I have had a hard time on myslabs.

This recent discussion on blowout doesn’t look good:

Never heard of them before. Did some looking and prices seem equal to ebay.
That being said the search seemed to work better then ebay 🤷🏻 James G |
Have made a half dozen purchases on MySlabs. It's not perfect, but is easy enough to use and fun to browse.

I guess because it was an asking price sale maybe it feels different. He got 94.5% of his asking price. Of course he could've asked less and gotten the same amount if not for the added charge but again, that's the same as an auction BP. |
From a buyer's perspective, much better than Ebay and auction house fee wise.
|
I like the site and think there is a definite need for a platform opposite of ebay. The issue I have is the museum asking prices that are similar to what I see when browsing ebay. Maybe have some kind of stipulation on pricing, like be within 20% of past sales etc….Obviously you can drill down on specifics but there has to be a way to sell competitively without gouging. Some of the asking prices on myslabs makes Deans cards pricing look like a bargain.

I am a big fan of myslabs both as a buyer and seller. Minimal fees taken out as a seller versus the Ebay alternative plus there are no bs returns or buyer not paying. From a buyer perspective you know that the card will be shipped out timely with shipping / tax already factored into the price. Also, you need to prove yourself as a good seller / buyer to get and maintain an account. Only issue is pricing is high and feels like being at a card show :)

I've not had much luck at all on MySlabs as a seller, even when I list at substantially lower prices than on eBay. I feel like if it's not seen in the first 24 hours, it never gets looked at. I think for me the eyeballs/volume is too low. But I do know that others seem to have more success than me.
As a buyer, I agree that the prices seem quite high usually but once or twice with offers I have had luck. I honestly almost never look there anymore. |
I love the concept and interface, but the marketing and site traffic are abysmal. I've been astonished by the number of cards I've sold on eBay for hundreds more than the price I listed on MySlabs.
One guy who messaged me on eBay saw my $2900 listing on MySlabs, but said he wasn't familiar enough with the site to trust it, so he wanted to purchase it on eBay. His eBay price after tax and shipping was about $3625. It's just one anecdote, but it speaks volumes about how much extra people are willing to spend to avoid uncertainty. |
That's interesting. For that kind of difference I would opt to take a bit of a chance, if it's only a bit of a chance. I haven't ever looked at myslabs.... Just the name isn't doing it for me. How about "My Cards" or something other than Slabs?

I only checked it out because I was searching for an obscure card and had exhausted every other option. I was immediately impressed with the site's search function, but it's hard to position yourself as an eBay alternative if you don't bother with marketing. |

It is definitely light on prewar but you can still find some beauties for a relative bargain
