First Three Years of Baseball Card Collecting
1 Attachment(s)
Im relatively new to Baseball Card Collecting, having just started in 2020. I collected Trading Card Games (TCG) for around 20 years, so collecting baseball cards has been a new thing for me.
After doing lots of research before buying my first card, I decided on a few sets I really liked the aesthetic of, and decided to start buying. I just finished my T205 HOF Set, and am one card away from finishing my 1934 Goudey HOF Set. I also really like the 1933 Goudey Sport Kings (Baseball and Basketball). Next up for 2024 (after the last card for my 1934 Goudey HOF Set), will be a 19th century set. I like the look of the N28/N29 & N164 so depending on how much money I want to allocate I will chase after one of those. Below is a photo of every card I own so far! Thanks to the community for an amazing 2023, and I look forward to 2024! |
Great start!!! Those are some great cards you have acquired. Good luck on your next set.

I don’t mean to brag, but within my first three years of collecting I had about 90% of the 1988 Donruss set completed, which has way more cards than the T205….
Kidding. That is amazing, beautiful cards you got there. |
You have some really nice cards. Good luck and happy hunting!

Tremendous start. Having the kind of focus you've shown thus far should serve you well. So many of us (myself included) get sidetracked with numerous side projects.
I've always loved those '34 Gehrigs. The yellow background is a classic and the other one reminds me of Roy Hobbs from The Natural. |
The last three years is an unfortunate time to start collecting financial wise ,
Hope you were able to find some good buys . Nice decision on what to collect - That’s an impressive display |
Great cards! Two questions:
1)I see Cicotte, Dahlen, and Chase - are these would be/should be HOFers in your mind? How do you decided which non-HOFers become part of the HOF set? 2)What do you look for condition-wise? |
Ive been collecting 30 years and your collection beats mine lol
|
Thank you Leon!
Really appreciate the community you have fostered here Quote:

Good questions:
1) I added Cicotte and Chase to the set because they were some of the most popular players of the time, and have historical significance to the era. I added Dahlen because there is a chance he is added to the HOF in the next 20 years, and I wanted to future proof the HOF set ;) 2) Condition wise I hate creases, tears or altered cards. I do not mind bad centering or other printing errors like shifted ink. I aimed for PSA 3 or 4 for the T205's (and some PSA 2's due to high cost). I aimed for PSA 4 or 5 for the 1934 Goudey's (and some PSA 2's due to cost). Quote:
