Current Cost to Build a T206 Set

I'm fairly new to the T206 world. I fell in love with these cards in March of this year and started my build shortly after. I'm almost at the half way point (244/520).

I try to consume as much info as possible. Net54 has been amazing and the few podcasts I've found are a good listen while driving. But with any investment market, old information is not very reliable.

I've seen the cost of commons nearly double since I started.

So my question is:

Given the current state of the market, how much would it cost now to complete a 520 card T206 set?

Forget the "big 4"; not possible for mortal human beings.

Looks like about $350K for 520 genuine cards. You have about half already. If you have the stars, obviously the cost is less.

The answer to that would greatly depend on graded/raw, condition, etc. If you’re after a 520 set of raw beaters, you’ll be nowhere near 350k.

I think the number is around 60k for 1 and 2 grade cards. I am about 1/3 in including a good number of HOF/SL, and I’ve spent around 18k. I figure a little more than double that to finish.

Yes $350K is for higher grade. Yes about $60K for a full set of lower grade 1 or 2 sounds about right today, or raw in pretty decent shape.

I have some raw t206s, and I would want my own full set that way. But that's me. Your situation may be totally different.

No chance to get the 520 for $60K in grades 1-2 IMO. Maybe all low grade beaters but I doubt even that for $60K.

You could probably do a PSA 1 set for around $80-$90k and a PSA 2 set for around $125-$140k. Really depends on how you build it and if you want nicer HoF guys versus commons.

No idea what a raw set would do but it would definitely depend on how nice the cards were (echoing what everyone else said).

I'm not a T206 guy but have built and currently building E sets. My only advice is to know what kind of set you want to build and stick with your conviction, enjoy the journey along the way, that's the most rewarding part. Also, it's always more expensive than you think to finish a set.

Current Cost:

Arm, leg, vital organ and then the costs get serious

I'm around 18k right now too...

But I have not acquired the Cobb / Young / Demmitt / O'Hare , etc...

Ponder the Demmitt / O'Hara carefully. I ultimately ended up buying them but I would have been as happy without them.

Demmitt and O'Hara...

If you're going to get them, you're better off, in the long run, to go ahead and get examples satisfactory to your condition requirements as soon as you can. Try to let go of the idea that you'd rather get to the point where you have 300 of them or 400 of them; and instead try to get Demmitt, O'Hara, a green Cobb, Elberfield's Washington portrait... some of those. Otherwise, as time goes by, unless your willingness to spend more keeps pace with the increasing costs, you may find yourself targeting 518, or some smaller number.

At least that's been my experience.

Metsfan0507 11-25-2023 08:28 PM

Over the last 12 months I collected all 29 HOF pitcher fronts, not including plank. I stuck mostly to the most common backs, but did get a few tolstoi/old mill/EPDG. My total cost was approx 19k with an average grade of 2.3. I could have reduced cost a bit but I splurged for a sgc 3 cy young portrait to finish my journey
