What to use to display with Aaron RC?
1 Attachment(s)
I’m wondering what might be a good complementary item to display alongside my Hank Aaron RC…
I’m considering the sports illustrated with him on the cover after hitting number 715. But that’s never been my favorite image of him, but it is obviously significant. There are many photos of him that are amazing, younger and earlier in his career with the great Braves uniforms. I’ve also toyed with the idea of purchasing my first heartland statue of Aaron I suspect there are some pretty clever ideas with this group and would love to hear suggestions and see any great complementary display items that you have alongside your own Aaron cards. Thx for any suggestions… Jeff (Here are a few images of other items I have with others’ cards…) |
I have an original 1954 Team photo if you are looking for something nice to buy alongside it 😉.

I always liked the 1967 Dexter Press postcards and premiums.

I would do the Hartland Statue. But go with the original version.... not the cheaper remake. You won't regret it.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/25630339670...Bk9SR6zXsLj9Yg It's a great likeness of Hammerin' Hank, and these vintage "playing days" statues display magnificently alongside the cards. Best of luck, whichever direction you go. |

I agree - there is something special about this one / looks great! Jeff |

I like the Hartland idea best for sure, but if you also wanted a backdrop for the two I would look for an auto'ed copy of the April 20, 1974 Sporting News. I just think the duo of Hank and Babe with the 715 would be cooler than the SI issue.
Granted the cover artist used was no Da Vinci, but I like the size and nice foxing on a paper just looks cool and period. |

Here's a few photos, another card and two Sports Illustrateds. I think any of them would make a nice display, however I especially like the photo of a young Hank at the train station. Maybe that one and another one of him hitting 715, sort of bookending his career.
Wonderful displays that you already have. |
From the picture of the collection, I see four magazines and five books. To keep the literary theme going, I would suggest a copy of “I had a Hammer: The Hank Aaron Story”.
https://www.amazon.com/Had-Hammer-Ha.../dp/0060163216 The card coupled with the Hartland statue and the hardcover book, would make a nice vignette. |
UV Protection for slabbed cards ??
I see you have some really nice slabbed cards--will artificial light fade the colors overtime?

I'd suggest going with a box of Greenies. Can't go wrong with these.

No idea, but that layout looks good, with the card + other piece. Presents well.

Since the card has him in a fielding pose Aaron endorsed mitt with a glove ad would look nice. He has many different models of MacGregor gloves over the years.

I really have to second (or third) the Hartland idea. I did that with a Banks rookie once upon a time, along with an autographed Perez Steele Greatest Moments postcard for additional background/contrast...could do similar with Aaron

I got a Musial Hartland to display with my Bond Bread RC and small collection. It looks great.

Thx for all of the ideas - I have decided to pick up a Hartland Hank (hopefully from a member here) and perhaps a photo as well.
I’ll send an updated image of my mantel when it’s all put together…. Thx all for the many great ideas 🤜🤛 |

PS...no pressure to actually use the book in your display if you decide against it once you receive it...happy for you to have and enjoy the book either way! Kevin |

If you'd like something off-beat, I have a copy of this magazine that I can send you if you give me your address. It's standard magazine size and has an article inside about the connection between cereal and sports. As well as other articles. Let me know.

Looking at your display. I remember a cool piece as a kid collecting cards. I subscribed to Boys Life and the 1972 March edition was about Hank Aaron. Something to consider.

I'm not sure if it's the era, the photographers, Mr Aaron, or all three but there are so many powerful baseball images of him that could qualify as fine art it's amazing.

FYI, I just purchased this great Hank from a fellow N54’er here and will proudly display along with a sweet new “I had a Hammer” loaned to me (as I will pay it forward after reading) by another Net54’er here.
(Dang sideways images below - sorry ‘bout that) Ain’t this hobby community great?? Sure, there are a few knuckleheads here and there… but most are totally cool dudes I’ll post a follow up photo when it’s all together and proudly on display - thx again for all of the great idea (and those images from this thread? So awesome) Happy Thanksgiving, all! Jeff |

Rotating is what I do for a living. Cool Hartland Aaron.

Resizing is a side hustle.

Displaying the card next to the vintage Hartland is great and what I would’ve suggested. However, I would additionally suggest you consider placing the card between the Hartland and a McFarlane figure of Aaron in his ‘74 era uniform. McFarlanes don’t have the same vintage appeal, but they’re very well done, in my opinion.

How about a picture of the pinball machine? Anyone else out there with a baseball themed pinball machine? There should be a thread on baseball coin-op machines.

This would be cool, but you can't have it.
It's the script Hank Aaron used when he made a cameo appearance on Happy Days signed for me |

You have a few other books there, so how about Hank's I Had a Hammer. Great cover art and it alludes to his nickname in the title. Could even get a signed copy.

*Note to self: Write a sports star cameo into my next script. |
