T206 Drum Johnson and others

My local card show, Wheelhouse, just had these get dropped off and they just hand delivered to PSA. I know Drum backs are extremely scarce. What do you think they grade and worth these days? I suspect the Johnson is the showstopper of the group.Attachment 597494

The sky is the limit for the Walter Johnson. Wow

Grades are probably 2's at best, but that really doesn't matter when you're talking Drum...especially that Johnson. It's a stunner!

My guess is 1.5, 1.5, 2, 2, 2mc.

Do you know where the WaJo will be sold?

npa589 11-17-2023 05:16 PM

At this point - i would assume Goldin, you know, since PSA basically owns an auction house.

Drum

That Wojo should bring well over 20K . The sky is the limit.
IMO

GOOD LUCK.

These are not mine. I do not know what the owner will do, but I wanted to provide some feedback to the shop since these are so rare. Obviously, super cool and I figured this place is the foremost expert in this space.

Agreed. Possibly multiples of that number.

The Johnson Drum- Yeah, way more than 20k...if authenticated but PSA or SGC.

Last (and only 1) HA in PSA 4 sold pre-Pandemic run up in 2019 for $75K. Discounting this new find by 50% for lower grade expectation, but then multiplying that by 3x to account for post-Pandemic run up, it could fetch over $100K.

A newly discovered Broad Leaf 460 did $138k at REA in August

This thing is going to do numbers

I have been looking for a low-grade Drum Davidson for years to finish my run. It's at the point where I am not sure I could rationalize the price I would ahve to pay.

Pelty went for $3.9K via HA in Jun ‘21 and Sweeney went for $2.2K. These would probably grade similar, so guess would be $8K and $4K respectively, however 2 bidders could drive them up higher.

Bucket 11-19-2023 05:24 PM

Nice.

Thanks for the info. So there are actually 6 in total. There's a Dolin batting that isn't pictured.

I don't see any of those common Drums shown in the first post going for any less than $6-7k each...pretty clean and presentable examples...possibly would go higher.

Bucket 11-20-2023 04:10 PM

Auction house?

Would you all think the two main auction houses are REA and Goldin? Curious, what do this auction houses charge?

I think that once you get them graded you could get the auction houses to forgo any sellers fees. These are that rare and the AH will still do very well with only the buyers premiums.

Good Luck
Fabulous cards .

brunswickreeves 11-21-2023 05:21 PM

IMHO-There should be absolutely zero sellers fee on these. In fact, you should negotiate for 3-5% of the 20% buyers premium, which an AH will happily comply with for the prestige to sell these. If not, next next. Further, I would negotiate for a reserve of $50K on the Matty since it’s ultra rare and you don’t want to take a bath on it if buyers are asleep. Lastly find an AH that’s willing to bring to and promote at the National for additional exposure and promo of a concurrent auction in which it is offered (e.g. Summer Platinum Night with HA).

I would think these cards would get lost in Goldins modern cesspool, choose an AH that knows how to treat these cards. LOTG, REA, Heritage, Sterling, Mile High, etc.
