Babe is going to set a new record.

Mantle and Mays may be losing their luster, but Ruth just keeps piling it on.

You were feeling it too?

Just seems like we’ve been ignoring this looming auction for far too long.

No surprise it went to SGC. :)

As it should. That's a PSA 1 for sure. 3 is a bit generous and probably graded on a curve. I'd call it a 2.5, but who cares. That card is insane no matter what slab it's in!

There’s an ungraded one on eBay:D

Whereever this card lands, I suspect like almost everything else it would have gone for 30-40% more in 2021.

SGC defines this rating as: “90/10 or better centering, corners more rounded—but not excessive, stronger creasing may exist. Poorer focus, registration and discoloration, and staining are more noticeable.”

I want to attach this quote every time I send a pre-war sub to SGC, my cards that fit this description usually come back a 1 maybe a 2 if they're generous.

Either way it's an incredible card and will be fun to watch the auction. My guess is it eclipses the Mantle by 20%-25%.

100 percent. Seller missed the boat on that card.

I'd love to know how much the private collector paid the family for this card in 2021.

Seller bought it in 2021 in a private sale. I would be surprised if he is taking a loss on it, but who knows.

The seller will make his money back for the card purchase 15 minutes after the auction starts. In an hour he will be in the green.

While I agree, I believe he could have made more money selling it 1-2 years ago.

brunswickreeves 11-14-2023 10:24 AM

I predict the recent private buyer (now selling to highest bidder) grosses at least $1MM on the 2 year investment. So that’s how you become a millionaire!

Babe is going to set a new record.

I guess I have been out of the loop for a bit. I didn't realize he came out of retirement. Is it the career HR's or RBI's, or both, that he will become the all-time leader again?

Brian (in my opinion no card should even be in the 5 digit range...but I do suffer from a severe case of fuddy-duddyism, which I just proved by using the term fuddy-duddy)

100% agree with that prediction. The buyers for a card of that magnitude are not the ones who chased Jordan rookies to $700K and will pay whatever it takes to get the card.
