2011 Matty premium in Heritage tonight is NOT as described

An FYI to any of our Board members may be pursuing it, the description for Lot # 41259 in the Heritage Auction that ends tonight contains misinformation. The description reads: "1911 Christy Mathewson Premium. Offered is a 1911 Christy Mathewson Premium from July 22, 1911 supplement from the National Police Gazette."

When I noticed the misinformation late this morning, I sent Heritage this message: "First, the narratine below Matty's pic says he is beginning his 17th season, which indicates this piece was issued much later than 1911. Second, I don't believe this is a premium "supplement" because there is no NPG issue # shown; rather, I think it is an actual page removed from a NPG issue because there is a page # (13) at the top right of this piece. Per The Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards, "such pages do not enjoy the same populatity and value as the supplements." I trust you will revise your description for this item asap."

I just now checked this auction listing, and I see that no changes have been made to it. It may well be that it's too late for Heritage to change the description.

If it's Matty's 17th season, then it's 1916. The bid is at $80.

Nice catch. You have to figure it's never too late to withdraw the lot.

I know I will now be bidding. I collect auction house items that have lot listing errors.

Brian! May I please have your autograph? I'm an autograph collector...the primary focus of my collection is signatures of people who collect auction lot listing error items. Thank you for considering my request!

Don't be surprised if my reply to your autograph request comes with my name misspelled!

No question it's a page from an issue in the auction, due to the page number.

Also, the caption on the claimed supplement is different.

For those of you who missed the supplement that's really just a page this weekend, they have a different Matty page listed as a supplement next week...

This evening, Friday, November 10th at 7:16 p.m., I received this response from Heritage to the above message that I sent to Heritage on Sunday, November 5th:

"Thank you for your email. I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Our lot numbers are often recycled so to assist you with your request we would need you to provide the auction number for the lot you are reporting. Seems the auction you are reporting may have already ended. If so, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We have had some errors in our mailbox sending emails and your email was just received."

SAD!

Wow. That is a shame, Val. Heritage is a big outfit of which sports cards and memorabilia are just a sliver. It's sad indeed that they don't value accuracy and their own reputation more.
