Starting off the month with 2 nice pickups for The Monster. Been trying to maintain a SGC 3 average and these 2 tougher commons fit just nicely..... 49 to go!!!!
Thanks to Glenn - darwinbulldog for the Dahlen and to Scott L. for the Adkins! Both transactions were flawless and both members were a pleasure to work with.... highly recommend them both!!! |

Technically an end of October pickup, but just got them back from SGC today. Surprisingly, only the Peters is from the recent Brockleman auction, the other 3 popped up on eBay and I was more than happy to add them to my Memphis collection. Really excited to have these cards in my collection!

Happy to find 3-Finger Brown for a cheap price, slowly picking off T205's without going for a set, but maybe in a few years I'll do a full one. I like them a lot more than the T206 portraits with the more colorful presentation. Mordecai is freshly liberated from a PSA 1 slab. Had a great run into his mid 30's, if he hadn't gotten such a late start he might be remembered more for how good he was than for his nicknames.

Cool postcard Leon. A few observations/queries: were those caps superimposed when they produced this postcard? It seems unlikely that an Alabama bakery would have gotten the Giants to wear these caps if the photo was taken in New York. Perhaps a spring training photo?
Anger Baking Co...damn right you better like what we produce! If you knew what was best for you, you wouldn't make fun of our Baby Head Macaroni! Brian Quote:

Cool postcard Leon!
I find it interesting that Chief Meyers is not wearing one of the advertiser's hats.

I picked this T206 Cobb Bat Off a week or so ago and it just arrived yesterday. So naturally, I got the whole gang together for a group photo. T206 Cobb run complete!
|
That is a very visually-appealing group of Cobbs.

Nice Patrick, I totally missed the one player (Meyers) that is not wearing a hat. There goes my superimposed cap theory. If I were the representative of the Anger Baking Co. that day at the photoshoot, I would have suggested, along with a two dollar bill, that the trainer in the bottom row hand his hat to Meyers. Brian- Awesome Cobb Run!

+2 on the Cobbs. Awesome eye appeal!!!

Doubted if a playing day Honus Wagner was ever a possibility, but then this pencil-marked 1909 E95 beauty came up on ebay and I knew it was the one for me!

Very happy to pick up the Hunky Shaw AB350 (Thanks, Jay). With only the Broad Leaf and the (alleged) EPDG left, this likely makes my Shaw back run "complete" at 7 cards.

Whenever I assume something, I make a wrong assumption.

Several weeks ago, unamuzd1 (hey, Morey) contacted me about whether a card he had seen on eBay with Howe’s stamp was one I needed. I responded it wasn’t among the approximate 120 I still needed. He asked if there was a list I had of the cards I needed and I responded it is a pretty long list, no one would actually want to look through it all. He asked again that I send him the list.
In the past week, he discovered that two of the cards he had purchased from Scott late last year were ones I had missed out on. Today, they rejoined the others as I try and build a complete set with Howe’s stamp. Thanks for being insistent, Morrie, and proving my assumptions wrong. What really has me pumped about the Mullen card is that it completes a page in the binder. My complete pages in the binder probably wouldn’t match anyone else’s, since I know Howe didn’t have either a Demmitt or O’Hara St. Louis. Everything after Demmitt is either one or two cards off from a “complete” set. I’m missing only one card on two other pages that I know exist with Howe’s stamp (both were in Scott’s auctions that I missed out on – Charlie Carr and Jimmy Jackson). I know the owner of a copy of the Carr card, but he hasn’t responded in several weeks after an initial agreement to sell. If you have any cards with Howe’s stamp that you might be willing to part with, please let me know. Several pages are missing five cards, many of which I’ve not seen an example of in almost 20 years. I’d be interested to hear if you have any of the missing 117 from here on out, even if you aren’t looking to sell or trade. Thanks. |
Great pick ups Ed, congrats. Rooting for you to keep finding those cards you need.
|
It would be fitting if Ed were to legally change his name to Howe McCormick, because then I believe folks would naturally be more likely to get these T206 stamped cards bearing his name to him.
Brian (also, if he somehow were be able to take up residence at 500 W. Main Street in Gainesville Florida, if it still exists, then it would be so easy to just stick a first class stamp directly on the T206 card and send it merrily back from where it came from) |
