Lelands

Anyone notice the 19th Century material in Leland's current auction? Jaw dropping stuff.

That’s for certain, Paul. Got my catalogue in the mail yesterday. Never seen this much pre-OJ premium material in one auction that I can ever recall, not even in REA.

Some amazing 1800's items

Very tempted detour from My Collection Focus and go after one.

They always have great truly vintage items

Scarce items, albeit in bad shape and, at least on the team CdVs, not any stars. My guess is that the results disappoint.

So, at least we know what you're bidding on ;)

I agree, but it should be a field day for type collectors.

Not any stars? The Boston 1871 CDV alone has the Wright Brothers, Spalding, Barnes and McVey...

The Sam Thompson cabinet card is

a scarce pose that I'm guessing not even experienced collectors like Old Judge and Joe Gonzowski have ever seen for sale before. Not that it makes any difference in desirability. I have a nice example in good condition that I thought probably unique until Lelands.

oldjudge 10-31-2023 11:27 AM

I meant to say that on MOST of the team CdVs there are no stars. Obviously, there are the stars on Boston, Anson and Pike. And Leon, in answer to your statement, I doubt that I will be bidding on any of them. If they weren't trimmed and the images were better then perhaps; in their current state, doubtful.

Hey Keith- Would you mind sharing a pic of yours? I know I've seen it in another thread just can't recall which one. Apparently the one in Leland's has pencil coloring in the hair. I'd love to compare the two.

@Leon- Thankfully I don't think any of these are up to Jay's standards so maybe us "regular" folks have a shot at 1 or 2 of them :)

Yeah, guess i will wait for a bunch more to show up in the coming PWCC auctions, no reason to chase these.

Scarce items in bad shape? That describes my collection to a T. Why buy a crispy clean Ruth card when you can get ten lower grade Ruth cards for the same price? That way, I end up with more Ruth cards!

insidethewrapper 11-01-2023 11:09 AM

I think the price will be strong for my budget. These are great items for most collectors and the price will be higher than I can pay .
