1893 Young Autographed Cabinet
The upcoming HA has the twice signed Young cabinet that they indicate came from Young’s personal holdings. If that is the case can anyone explain to me why someone would autograph their own cabinet once, let alone twice? My guess is that everyone in the family knew who it was.

Who knows??? It makes just about as much sense as someone forging it twice. (I also don't collect autos and just assume everything is fake unless I watch the guy sign it fwiw)
BTW haven't heard from you in a while Jay...hope you're doing well buddy :) |

Not to hijack this thread, but I just took a look at the auction. The most valuable item in the auction, according to Heritage's estimates, is a Tom Brady rookie at 1.2 million. Compare that to the Young at 250K. I don't know about you, but even if the Young autographs are fake, I'd still much rather have five of the Young cabinets (which of course don't exist in that quantity), instead of one Brady. I'll never understand modern collecting.

I have never seen seen any of these cabinets in person, but I think that I saved images of them on my computer somewhere. |

But there is money for some in those modern cards in higher grades and in the artificially limited numbers of cards |
I think the better question is whether I cash out my 401k to buy it?!?! Of course, I am just joking. I will just borrow against my house or my kids’ 529 plans.

OMG - who are we to question the authenticity of this signature. PSA has deemed it an authentic signature! :p
I have no opinion whether it is real or not. I would hope there were a lot of forensic checks done in the authentication process and the question in my head is "what idiot would ruin a cabinet of that quality (I'm being serious here) by forging a signature?" |

Oh yeah - I thought that outing auctions was considered "rude" on this board.:p Yeah, not that many of us would be ponying up that kind of cabbage. |

This is the Cy Young cabinet in the Heritage auction.
Craig, that is a sweet cabinet. Attachment 594293 |
Funny, I've owned a twice-signed photo that belonged to the player! Hal Chase originally inscribed it to his mother but didn't sign it (he did write her name on the back). Decades later, it was the only photo the destitute Chase still had to give to a young girl and her father who collected autographs through the mail. He wrote a message on the verso and signed it again on both sides.

Is "fronto" the opposite of "verso"? For that matter, why isn't "ert" the opposite of "inert"? And why are asteroids in the sky and hemorrhoids in your butt? It would make more sense the other way around.
Sorry, been a long day and that's all I have left in the tank. And a card https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ers-Weaver.jpg |
