Ken Smith Collection

I am looking for someone who can help me with an item that claims to be from the "Ken Smith Collection". The autograph ball was purchased by Barry Halper and sold at a charity auction in Chicago.

sounds like something that would have originated from C.C. unfortunately

I am not sure why you say this? Ken Smith was a respected member of the BBWAA, he served as the secretary-treasurer for 19 years. In 1963 became the Director of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

The vast majority of pieces in Halper's collection were authentic. Because a few of the higher-profile pieces were counterfeit, the entire collection has taken a somewhat unfair hit, as a result.

Re-post this in the Autograph Sub-forum on the Memorabilia side, and include photos of the ball. The members over there are every bit as knowledgeable as PSA or Spence. They will give you all the answers you seek.

Thanks I will do that. I appreciate your suggestion and I understand the hesitancy on the Halper collection.

this is nothing against Mr. Smith; for a few years someone has been using what is proposed to be stationary from Barry Halper/Halper Brothers and claiming questionable items came directly from the collection of baseball industry leaders (such as Smith, Bowie Kuhn, etc.).....

Can you post the letter?

Here is the letter from Halper on the baseball.

Those baseballs are pathetically bad.

So bad that if someone got ripped off on one of those…I don’t think I even feel bad for them.

Even the smallest amount of common sense would cause one to run away.
