Yutaka Enatsu… holy hell, what a badass!
I’m guessing quite a few members here have already read Joe Posnanski’s book, “Why We Love Baseball”
I just picked it up to read while on vacation. I just finished the chapter on the Japanese Walter Johnson, Yutaka Enatsu - holy hell, this dude defines the handle bad assery! I won’t give it away but the 2 stories they tell to help describe how dominant he was are 2 or the best baseball stories I have read in a long, long time. Do yourself a favor and find a way to access this chapter - this dude was equal parts super skill and killer attitude. It’s as-if Nolan Ryan and Michael Jordan had a love child and raised him to pitch. Now, I just need to find a cool card of Enatsu to add to my collection! |
I find I collect for the stories. Lots of good stories in European soccer between the world wars. Look up Matthias Sindelar and what he did in 1938.

Enatsu is still quite popular in Japan, his cards from the 70s are probably second only to Sadaharu Oh’s among collectors (from that decade). He almost ended his career in MLB with the Brewers.
