Memory Lane T205 Auction
I just wanted to get people's thoughts on the Memory Lane T205 set break that ended last night. I was pretty surprised that a lot of PSA 6 commons were going for well over 1K - in many cases, they went for more than Hall of Famers in PSA 5 (and we are not necessarily talking about short print commons or even marginal HOFers - think Jack Murray vs. Frank Chance, for example). T205 is obviously a very condition-sensitive set, but it increasingly seems like it is becoming grade above all in that set. Do people agree? Was this an aberration?

Maybe T205s are finally getting their just dues. To me, they have always been one of the very best looking sets in the hobby. Glad to see the strong prices.

Some of the prices for the HOFers were not that strong though, especially not relative to the high grade commons.

Some examples:
Robert Byrne PSA 6: $1417 Josh Devore PSA 6: 1559 Chas Dooin PSA 6: 967 Larry Doyle PSA 6: 967 Matty McIntyre PSA 6: 1289 Jack Murray PSA 6: 1715 Meanwhile: Frank Chance PSA 5: $799 Eddie Collins(cl) PSA 5: 799 Hugh Duffy PSA 5: 600 Miller Huggins PSA 5: 600 Hughie Jennings PSA 5: 600 John McGraw PSA 5: 540 Johnny Evers PSA 4: 660 Ed Walsh PSA 4: 799 |
Jeremy, all your examples of commons are in a PSA 6. I think it’s likely a registry buyer(s) and it’s the grade and registry that is pushing the price

M116 Wagner 3 for 52K. SMH.

My favorite: a second year Elgin Baylor for 190K.
OK so someone was able to get it into a 10 holder. Whoopee. |
