I will be selling some of my tougher Negro Leagues autographs starting with what I believe to a pretty historically significant 12 page handwritten letter with a full name Dave Malarcher signature to Negro League historian John Holway.

Dave Malarcher Letter
In this 13 page handwritten letter written entirely in Malarcher’s hand written to Negro Leagues historian John Holway, Malarcher discusses former teammates and players and corrects the popular record on Oscar Charleston related to an article that either Holway or someone else had written about Charleston. Malarcher writes:

“Charleston was not barrel-chested in his prime – when he was really the greatest of all outfielders and players. He was all muscle and bone – no fat, no stomach, the perfect broad shouldered; fine strong legs, strong muscular arms and legs, and large, and powerful hands and fingers. He was fast and strong! He could reach at top speed and faster a ball in that one right hand or the bare left hand, and it was there to stay. He was truly phenomenal.”

The letter has pages of content on Charleston, Bill & Rube Foster, Larry Brown and other great commentary including a reflection about how he admired Harriet Beecher Stowe (author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin). I find this to be an extremely significant letter and a must for any Negro Leagues collector.
