It's like an expensive scratch ticket, right? There only needs to be a 1-2% chance that it's real.

Of course, there's a 100% chance that it's not, but math is fluid.

It appears he has a positive feedback rating of "8" which is from purchases....he has not sold anything on eBay in the past.....Even if this card was real, I wouldn't want to bid on a '52 Mantle from someone who has never sold anything on eBay in the past...

Doesn't eBay have automatic authentication for all cards over a certain value at the moment or did they end that? Confused how that one isn't going through an authentication.

Yeah, it's supposed to be automatic for any single card over $250. All the cards I've seen listed by "respected" sellers have it, you can see a blue checkmark icon in the item listing. But apparently some people find ways to get around it, which obviously makes this one even sketchier than it already is..

Title says "cards", which is plural. Ebay doesn't authenticate lots.

We live in an alternative universe now. Where the earth is flat, math is subject to interpretation, science is the devil's work, all viewpoints deserve equal coverage, and Mickey Mantle cards printed on your HP device are all innocent until proven guilty by your local neighborhood TPG.

:D

9 bids now. I went ahead and flagged the sale as very likely a fake, and definitely at attempt to skirt the authentication process for cards over $250. Doubt it matters, seems like the Wild West over there at fleabay!

We used to have a member that would buy these items all the time. Then return them and call the sellers scammers. Not sure what he expected when paying pennies on the dollar for obvious fakes. Was insanely funny to read about though.

I have noticed many "respected" sellers have went the other way and used the words/phrases that let them bypass authentication.

EDIT: To add it isn't going to be authenticated because it is in Canada. In my personal experience even when the item says it will be authenticated it won't be if it is coming from another country.

he has no completed listings or ended listings
IE: if ended it himself it would show up in his completed
i guess several people flagged it and possibly Ebay took it down.
