George Weiss Rookie Card

Per wikipedia: "In 1915, at age 20, he founded the New Haven MaxFeds in the independent Colonial League, an "outlaw" minor league associated with the Federal League. In 1919, Weiss borrowed $5,000 to acquire the New Haven franchise in the established Class A Eastern League; his team was immediately nicknamed the Weissmen by local baseball writers. He operated the New Haven club, eventually nicknamed the Profs in tribute to Yale, for a decade; it won three league championships between 1920 and 1928."

Same image from a publication identifying Weiss:

Old Cardboard has Weiss listed as having no career-contemporary cards, so this would be one.

Adam - great postcard, and very nice contemporary piece for Weiss (and Bender).

As you mentioned, there aren't many contemporary cards picturing Weiss. There is a Cabinet with the same image as your postcard (cropped a little differently), but the image I have is super low quality.

Here's my site showing all of George's "rookie" cards/photos. The earliest card picturing Weiss is a c1914 New Haven Team postcard; and his earliest known "individual" item is a 1919 Roger Sherman Studio Photo.

Very cool, I have been looking for the 1976 Shakey's Pizza card and using that as the rookie for my HOF collection.
These here are very rare I assume. How many of these do you know of? Is this the only one?

I don't know. I saw the 1920 New Haven PC in LOTG and did a little research.

Thanks Phil - unfortunately, I sold the postcard a few years ago. But yeah, there are still lots of cards in my collection that once resided in yours!

Almost every week I see cards floating around which I owned before. And some of them have made the trip back home. I am pretty sure I owned a 1914 postcard just like the one pictured above, if not that one.
.

I had that happen last year. A card I sold many years ago was offered to me. I knew it was the same card from the flaws that looked familiar, but I later verified it with the PSA cert #.
