Database of TPG flips
Hi all,
I'm looking for a good reference that shows images for all of the PSA, SGC, and Beckett flips that have been used since the inception of third-party grading. I found this site that shows images of the PSA flips but have not been able to find something similar for SGC and Beckett. https://allvintagecards.com/history-of-psa-flips/ Does anybody have a resource they could share? thanks, jeff |
I don't know of a list for SGC, but I can think of at least 3 main designs, the old SG label, the old SGC label and the new SGC label.

The top pair has a lighter border than the second pair. I also initially thought that the font was slightly different, but now I'm not sure. The third and fourth pairs are the latest designs, as far as I can tell. |
Early on SGC flips did not have 1-10.

The flip they say was first and issued from 1991 to 1992 was used atleast until 1996 as I submitted cards in 1996 that had the flip as the 1982 Topps Ronnie Lott example. The original flips had no number, just the alphabetic grade vg/ex, mint, etc. I will find my NSCC program from the first Atlanta National where the PSA ad shows such flips. It has been years since I encountered the original flip with no numeric grade in the wild. |

This is as early as it gets with Beckett. They graded 12 cards in house to test the slabs before they ever graded a single card for the public. This is card #0005 from that test run. I bought this card from Leon who bought it from Mark Anderson.
I also bought serial #007 personally from Mark. It also has Jim Beckett III as the card. Mark couldn't remember for sure but thought 3 or 4 of the 12 cards graded in testing was the Beckett card. |
