Joey Votto once again for the win

This is hysterical. But can someone explain what the Roger Peckinpaugh reference is all about?

Definitely funny and VOtto has a personality indeed.

Sadly he is not have a Votto like year.

Hopefully he heats up with the summer

"Peckinpaugh, who Votto referred to in his rant, was a former MVP back in 1914 and was a defensive wizard for four teams, spending nine seasons with the New York Yankees."

Stole that from another website. My take is that some analysts bite Votto on his defensive metrics when considering his HOF merits. I know that Votto has personally said in previous seasons he would like to have better defensive numbers. On Baseball Savant, he has two seasons with -9 Outs Above Average (2016 & 2022). In 2017 - the year he placed second in MVP falling short by 2 votes! - he said in spring training that he worked very hard in the off-season to be a better fielder. So if Peckinpaugh was a defensive wizard with NYY, it's in line with his comments that Russo is a large market snob looking down on small market teams with his pocket squares and quaff hair.

That was very entertaining. The horrified look on Alanna Rizzo's face before she realized Votto was joking was priceless.

I agree that the Roger Peckinpaugh reference was to Peckinpaugh's fielding, and Votto not being known for his glove.

Also, I think Votto and Greinke get in the HOF, despite Chris Russo having said they are Hall of Very Good.

I think they both have a chance. Not a lock and not first round HOFers to me.

Greinke should have quit after last season. I think he's probably in but is he really any more deserving than, say, Tiant?

I think Tiant deserves to be in.

But I think Greinke is actually underrated and should easily get in. While other pitchers have been more consistent, few have had the peak dominance of Greinke, who had two of the best seasons in modern pitching history--his ERA+ of 205 during his Cy Young season in '09 and his ERA+ of 222 in 2015 when he finished second in the voting. Kershaw, deGrom and Sale, are the only other active pitchers that with multiple seasons with an ERA+ above 200 (not Verlander, Scherzer, Bieber, Kluber).

He has the 25th highest JAWS of any starting pitcher ever. The only pitchers ahead of him that aren't in the Hall of Fame are Clemens, Schilling. (Tiant is 44th on the list)

Doesn't hurt that he won 6 gold gloves and 2 silver sluggers.

Thanks for sharing those insights on Greinke. I did not realize some of that.
