National Day 1 - Sneak Peek recap

Got to the show right at 3:30 due to delays at O'Hare.

Snagged my super VIP and sold the auto sheets and recouped most of ticket cost.

My first stop was to drop off my packages at PSA. The lines were not overly long, which surprised me a bit. I got to use a Lightning Lane as I had stuff all ready to go. The PSA staff was very helpful and considerate in numerous interactions I witnessed

The space for exhibitors is simply massive, gigantic...Large.

I have not been to a Chicago Natty in years but the space being used is substantially more.

I tried to peruse the "non main" floor areas and these are still loaded with dealers. A good mix of new and vintage in these areas, but definately more on the modern side.

LOTS of younger collectors wheeling and dealing mainly in modern slabs.

Met two fellow board members today. ***you can chime in if you want*** One was working on grabbing a few Herpolshiemers and we akso talked a bit about Sam Crawford and Golf Cards

Another board member was making a purchase working toward repeating the impressive Red Cobb back collection.

It was nice having the VIP for the lounge benefit chance to sit, grab sone water and cool off.

It was hot and sticky in the main Convention center. With increasing crowds and even warmer temps Saturday could be downright foul.

Highlights today was seeing an elusive Uzit Crawford (well out of my price range) and sitting by a collector who had 7 special panini packs that they give out to holders of unfullfilled redemptions.

I am not into modern, but the first of his 7 packs had a Justin Jefferson 1/1 auto rookie card. Totally made his day!

I am staying at the Double Tree in Arlington Heights. It is about a $20 uber, but the low hotel fare makes up for it. My room is great and the hotel restuarant is batting 1.000 on my evening meal, generous pour of Michters, service and surpringly reasonable hotel restuarant pricing. If you are coming in later and still need a Hotel....I would reccomend.

Will be more photos from some of the AH tomorrow....

Happy collecting!

Dave

That card and the 1958 All-Star Mantle card too, from the looks of it!

Complete shitshow Day 1 getting in...oversold VIP...entire first floor full at 3:30...General Admission sent upstairs and got in before some VIP....never seen as many people on a Wednesday...EVER. Hot as balls. Great deals on cheaper stuff...not so much on vintage...at least what I was looking for.
