Do you ever forget what you have?
I decided to do some cleaning today and came across 3 Sandy Koufax auto'd cards, a Willie Mays auto'd ball and two Ted Williams signed cards that I completely forgot I had.
I know, this seems blasphemous, but I was pleasantly surprised as I was going through my closet. Once I saw each item, I totally remembered buying it....but I really had forgotten I had them. How often do you all "find" things in your collections? |
That's a great feeling. It's funny yesterday I was getting some items ready to take with me to Cooperstown and behind some framed photos I found a Larry Doby signed 16x20 and a Carlton Fisk signed 16x20. Completely forgot I had them.

LOL :D
Absolutely! |
I certainly do
|
I don’t think I would forget anything signed by Willie, Ted or Sandy but I have a low end collection of low end stuff, so it happens to me occasionally. I just received a newspaper that, as soon as I opened it, I realized I already had. Good thing I paid a buck for it.

Oh yea all the time. If you saw my storage areas you would know why. Not that I have anything like an auto'd Mantle ball or anything but still.....
Once in a while I like to look at my past submissions to PSA on their we site. I still have no idea ever submitting some of those cards. |
I sometimes forget having common, easy to find stuff. I'd never forget owning a rare or expensive card.
|
Absolutely. I also sometimes think I sold or traded something that I still have. I was pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago to find that I still had a Duke Kahanamoku postcard that I thought I sold.
|
Happens to me as well.
Mainly due to a shift in collecting interest or I put an item away hoping to display it one day....and years go by... You only have so much wall space :( |
I have cubby holes and stacks of stuff I have definitely forgotten about. It's kind of fun rediscovering things.
. |
I have a chest of drawers that I call the black hole. I'll go looking for one thing and find something I totally forgot I had. Better to do that than to buy something and THEN find out you already have it. LOL
|
wellllll....yeah!
Happens too often actually. |
In my opinion, one purpose of having a large collection or a sprawling accumulation of things is the pleasure of rediscovering a nice piece from time to time. AND you don't have to pay for it!
|
It happens all the time. It's so exciting to find something you forgot you had. It winds up being either something cool you can enjoy again or something you can sell to buy something you want more.

yes
big time...lol...
|
I don't have much, so this never happens
|
Definitely! Found a 1939 World Series program the other day in my closet and it was a pleasant surprise!
The flip side hurts though: When you forget where you put what you are currently looking for! |
Forgetting things
Heck yes, happens a lot. Discovering these pieces is like getting them again- free this time:). Trent King

I received a scored Koufax program that I bought on ebay today and let it sit around for a few hours before I scanned it and named the files because it's a duplicate of I game I already have. When I finally got around to scanning it I realized it was a completely new game for my collection, I had forgotten. His 1st appearance of 1956, and 13th of his career. No decision #91, appearance #263 in my collection. Doug |
I forget what I have ALL THE TIME!
That being rediscovery is almost as much fun as the first time you found it 🤣 |
No, just where I put it!
|
Errrrmmm, yep.
I keep a spreadsheet of all my cards. I know that I need to double check the spreadsheet before I bid on cards to avoid buying a dupe. But occasionally, impatience gets the better of me and I take a chance because I'm pretty sure I don't have it. Unfortunately my memory isn't as good as I think and I end up with a double. <Sigh> |
Have done all of these more than once:
[x]Forgot I had it and bought it again [x]Was sure I had it and didn't buy it [x]Know I have it and can't find it [x]Didn't know I had it and found it Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |
I collect official minor league baseballs and as my collection grew I started forgetting what I had and buying duplicates. That's why I started a spreadsheet and then a website so I'd have a photo catalogue available no matter where I was.

I have a highly detailed spreadsheet and a website with all my m113 & m114 posters and I just figured out that the Robin Roberts m114 that I have on my want list is already in my collection. Hiding in plain site. Hahahaha.
