What's on your "National Hit List?"

Thought I would share my list as I would love to be able to get just one of these! Most are high end of my budget…but if you don’t look you aren’t going to find!

Curious what everyone might have their eye on to try and find at the National that is on their "Hit List".

I hope to get a chance to meet a few of you as well. I will be there on Wednesday and leaving Saturday morning.

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth: #53 or 149 (PSA 2, 2.5, maybe a 3) with Lighthouse flip.

IndyDave 07-17-2023 11:46 AM

Pre war I’m looking for some Diamond Stars as I work on my very low grade set - cards with writing etc are in my wheelhouse Also working on my 1941 Play Ball set - slightly better condition here - more a G to VG set - no major creases or issues.

I’m primarily focused on food issues in post war cards: Hostess panels (down to 8 needed ), Kahn’s all sports with a focus on 66-68 and 1958 Hires.

Also would like to work on 1969 and 1970 Milton Bradley

On the high end I’m looking for a 1950 Bowman Jackie Robinson in low grade and a 1958 Hires Willie Mays. Still need Ted and Joe in the 1941 Play Ball. 1950 Bowman football Motley and Graham.

At the end of the day I will probably come home with little of this and something I’m not even thinking of now - like the last Chicago national when I bought a lot of about 150 1949 Bowman

I would certainly be open to lots of 1939 and 1940 Play Ball, Goudey, 1951 Blue Back, Wheaties, Berk Ross, Kahn’s, 1971 OPC

Going back to the “good old days” thread, the best shows were always coming home with a big pile of cards.

Overall, with few exceptions, I’m looking for fairly priced cards or “bargains “. I’m not looking to set the market.

Time to work this week on making sure my want lists are updated and figuring out what backpack/ bag I’m taking and getting a box or two and some card savers ready.

T206 Chase blue port Cycle 350 & 460, BL 350 and any other rareback.

T206 Chance yellow port Cycle 350 & 460, Carolina Brights, AB350.

T206 Clean Lenox/Red Hindu.

T213-1 Chance yellow port

Rhotchkiss 07-17-2023 07:43 PM

Chris, I think Sterling has a Yellow Chance Cycle 460 (and EPDG and OM) in their next auction.

I will not be at the National, but I wish all of you fun and good luck hunting for your “hit list” items.

Casey2296 07-17-2023 08:47 PM

To quote Richard III, "A Horse, A Horse, my Kingdom for a Horse".

I've hit the wall on my Bender White Cap back run, I'm at 9/14.

So here goes,

E105 Mello Mint

T216 Kotton NGO "not in trust", Mino, and VE.

D303 General Baking

And the single blank back that is buried deep in one of y'alls collection.

Find any one of these for me and I'll make sure you get on my Christmas list in perpetuity and receive not only a box of chocolates but a nice finders fee to boot.

Achievable

- Finish 1961 Nu-Card Scoops (mostly HOFers left)

Possible

- Finish more back puzzles for the 1935 Goudey baseball master set (four need 1 or 2)
- Kill Goudey Knot Hole League (need #5) and Varsity Football (need #21) flipping games
- Get last R322 Goudey back variation (Greenberg)
- Finish 1939-41 Play Ball run (need 1939 #132)
- Finish 1954-55 Red Man sets (need nine total)

Unlikely

- Finish 1956 Topps white/grey backs (need five, including Mantle)
- Find new-to-me #5 or two!

fisherboy7 07-18-2023 04:44 AM

What's on your "National Hit List?"

1. E107 Breisch-Williams HOFers that I don’t have

2. N162 Brouthers and Caruthers

3. Cobb leaning on bat pose (e92/e101/e102/t216 etc)

4. Rare type cards (texas tommy , boston garter, etc etc)

I’ll also be looking to hit a few wantlists of friends who can’t make it to the show. Can’t wait !

Thanks,
Ben

Chicago deep dish Pizza at the Net54 dinner.

Centauri 07-18-2023 02:05 PM

I know this is a vintage group - but if any of you spot the 2021 Topps Chrome Jose Ramirez Superfractor I would pay a 20% finder's fee or whatever the asking price.

Oscar_Stanage 07-23-2023 04:44 AM

I am hunting for PSA 2-4 of the following t206.
Wajo pitching
Lajoie portrait
Evers Cubs
Baker
Mordecai cubs
Tinker portrait
Tinker bat-on
Crawford batting
Crawford Throwing

I am only dealing in-person until after the show. Anyone looking to sell/trade any of these, please PM me. Would be great to do a live deal.

scoutsout47 07-23-2023 09:38 AM

For those of you who were looking to catch a ballgame while in Chicago, you could add the White Sox vs. Guardians challenge to your want-list for the evening of July 27. During several of the past Nationals I’ve attended, it always seemed that the home teams were playing away games during that week.

As for my targets, maybe a handful of the horizontal ‘15 CJ cards I still need, to include Gandil, Peckinpaugh, Marquard, Tesreau, Austin and Demaree.

rjackson44 07-23-2023 12:30 PM

Still looking for the last (5) 1916-20 UNC-Big Heads on my list to complete.
Maybe someone here will find one and help me get a step closer.
Needs in my signature below.

Snapolit1 07-23-2023 03:27 PM

Officially taking a pass. Will catch the East Coast National later in the year. 500 tables. That works for me.

Lucas00 07-23-2023 03:31 PM

Same here, Chicago's just too far of a drive for the time I want to spend. Hope everyone has a good time

Yoda 07-23-2023 04:47 PM

T206 McGraw - glove with Cycle and EPDG backs. Also a D304 Eddie Collins.

mrreality68 07-23-2023 05:04 PM

Looking forward to seeing them

Enjoy the National

Andrew1975 07-23-2023 05:41 PM

My want list is several pages long, but a few of the tougher ones that I would love to see...

1934 Annis Furs Hank Greenberg (wishful thinking, I know...)

1911 M116 Sporting Life Joe Wood
1887 N365 Lone Jack Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin
1888 N76 Duke's Great Americans Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin

I hope everyone attending finds what they are looking for!

Andrew

i struck out on my Hostess list though I have found 2 of the panels I need on line

I did get 6 Hires at the show and about 30 Kahns

I did pick up a Jackie Robinson 1950 Bowman in SGC 1

I never did find any lots of cards to buy.

Found other stuff - B18s in particular.

Happy with my overall haul

I hit a home run based on what I was looking for:) Not only did I pick up one of the two needed 1935 National Chicle football hi numbers (Bull Tosi) I needed, but I also bought a pile of 1955 Topps Doubleheaders including Ted Williams, Warren Spahn, Al Kaline, Jackie Robinson, and Harmon Killebrew. Oh, and that unobtainable Nagurski came home with me too!
