1936 Los Angeles Examiner Sport Stamps Jesse Owens, Louis Zamperini +++

I found a rare group of the 1936 Sport Stamps from the Los Angeles Examiner. Jesse Owens needs no intro. Louis Zamperini was an American World War II veteran, an Olympic distance runner (8th at the 1936 Olympics in the 5,000). Zamperini served as a bombardier on B-24 Liberators in the Pacific. On a search and rescue mission, his plane experienced mechanical difficulties and crashed into the ocean. After drifting at sea on a life raft for 47 days, with two other crewmates, Zamperini landed on the Japanese-occupied Marshall Islands and was captured. He was taken to four different prisoner-of-war camps (total) in Japan where he was tortured and beaten by Japanese military personnel due to Zamperini's status as a famous Olympic runner. He was later taken to a new prison camp at a coal factory, and after much hardship, he was finally released. Zamperini is the subject of the biographical film Unbroken (2014).

There are also 13 other athletes. See the pictures.

In terms of condition, all were attached to a scrapbook. Owens has a strip of scrapbook paper on the back. Most of the cards do.

Asking $200 delivered on the lot. Zelle or Paypal (3% fee). CA residents pay sales tax too (sorry).

I will also send you some newspaper clippings about Owens from the Examiner of the era. They are interesting reading and it seems a shame to discard them.

First one to PM or post here gets the item.
