Custom Federal League cut autographs
I decided to expand my Federal League collection by branching out into autographs of the various players. I wasn't happy with the butchered look of the "Historic Autos" line, but it got me thinking about cut autographs.
And then I stumbled upon rajah424's amazing creations. So after lots of messages explaining methods, and borrowing heavily from his designs, I now have the beginnings of a collection that I am happy with. Extra kudos to Stuart for putting up with all of my messages!! :) https://i.ibb.co/Hn3h9Xh/IMG-5790.jpg https://i.ibb.co/cD1ctc7/IMG-5791.jpg https://i.ibb.co/sFDM7n3/IMG-5797.jpg https://i.ibb.co/3kzGDvG/IMG-5798.jpg https://i.ibb.co/6shzv47/IMG-5799.jpg https://i.ibb.co/grNh99m/IMG-5800.jpg |
JJ They look great
Like that there's stats on the back brings a "cut" sig to life |
Yeah, and it gets me to know the players better - tracking down their photos and their stats. Like I didn't really notice that Johnny Miljus started his career with the Feds, and that he only pitched a single inning in 1915 with them. Would like to track down more of that story.

Nice job.

Those look great!
I would like to try it too. Can you post the technique? |
Awesome! Those look really nice.

I love that you’re doing this. Here’s my Al Shaw, with a custom I designed based on the structure of Historic Autographs Originals 1909-13 issue from 2013.
To me, the future of collecting is all about customs. Check out Instagram and you’ll see so many people doing it for all sorts of eras of baseball and other sports. #customsportscards https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9a35588f_c.jpg |
It's great to see others doing it as well. I'm not a big fan of the plain index card, and it's fun to see others attempting to do this decades earlier, with a newspaper image pasted to the card, and stats added as well, so we've been doing this a while it seems :)
https://i.ibb.co/S61k66Z/IMG-5858.jpg As to steps 1) Print the front on glossy sticker stock 2) Print the back on glossy sticker stock 3) Attach both to acid free comic backer board 4) Cut out the cards and signature window 5) Attach signature w/ acid free tape 6) Finish the "sandwich" with acid free double-sided tape That's it in a nutshell. Besides lots of time looking up a photo and the stats, photoshopping it all, and then carefully spending your evening with an exacto knife... |
