Joe Yanello RIP
 

I heard from a reliable source that Joe Yanello passed away this morning.

Some who started collecting in the past few years may not have known Joe but was a large dealer in the Midwest and once had a nice website with a lot of pre war cards and was well respected.

Very good dude who was instrumental in helping me and my Dad build our collection throughout the years. Did lots and lots of deals with him. Will be missed…..

Joe was always great to chat with. I did several deals with him over the years. Rip Joe, you'll be missed.

Joe was a terrific guy and I always cherished our conversations at the National. I did lots of deals with him when he ran his auction house and always looked forward to his new offerings.

He was a wonderful, down-to-earth and genuine man who will be missed by those of us who knew him.

His auctions back in the day were a major source of my T206 520 set. He ran a great business. Condolences to his family.

He won the Lionel Carter T206 set when it was in Mastro back in 2007. And he won a T205 set in Heritage back in 2010, which sourced a nice pair of signed T205 cards -- Wheat and Marquard. He touched a lot of the cards in the hobby.

That was Shoeless Joe's father. Didn't realize they passed exactly a year apart.

The National was his one show/year the past handful of years, but during the 1990s/2000s, he was all over the Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania part of the show circuit.

Saying that he "touched a lot of cards" is an accurate way to put it. Through that volume and his aptitude, he became one of the most incredibly knowledgeable people on cards that you'd ever meet.

Very sad. RIP, Joe.

Many quality deals with Shoeless Joe over the years. So sad to see this news. He was one of the first dealers to choose to not do business with PSA and one year he showed up at the National with a hundred cases (it seemed like) of SGC graded vintage cards.
I always admired him for that.

How unfortunate RIP Joe. So many cards purchased over the years. What good memories of my early days of vintage collecting and picking up cards off his website. He was always willing to hold a card or two. Huge loss to the hobby!

Way too young. He was always a pleasure to deal with. RIP Joe.

Oh gosh, that is horrible.

I don't know what to say other than I am gutted. Worked with him over the years and enjoyed the friendship of he and his wife.

I always liked his auctions, never got to meet Joe.

Bought many cards from Joe through the years through Joe's Vintage Sports Cards. I did finally meet him at one of the Nationals.

He had a big presence on eBay, and I suspect the emergence of PWCC may have had a big impact on his eBay business as he faded from the spotlight.

Joe was a fantastic guy and a fixture at the National and regional IL, OH, KY, IN, TN shows that I can remember for the last 20-25 years. Maybe longer. As others have said, he had an encyclopedic knowledge of cards. RIP Joe and prayers to his family.....

Sad to here. Joe was a good guy and we did several deals years ago when I was part of another message board he was on. Was he still living in Florida?

He left the Fla Keys years ago & went back to Illinois

This is a total shock to me. Joe and Tim formed Joe's Vintage Sportscards for a number of years. Joe loved his beer and enjoyed the best things in life. He will be missed by all the dealers that respected him, including me.

I am very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He was a real smart card guy- and a person I considered a pretty good friend. Like many- I was closer to Joe many years ago - when he was active on the show circuit. I did stay in touch with him though- and occasionally we still did some business. He was way too young to leave us- but in the end, I guess we are not really in charge of such matters. I will miss him- RIP

Ahh...I didn't know that. I hadn't really had much interaction with Joe since I left LTS six or so years ago. He was a fun guy and at one time had a great personal collection as well.

I visited with Joe's wife, Lisa, yesterday. She's read this thread and appreciates all the kind words and memories.

At one of the Chicago Nationals in the early 2000s, I spent an hour or so one afternoon picking through a slew of raw 52 Topps cards he had in a big plastic bin at his table and watched him dig into his beer cooler for a cold one. For me, it was my most memorable National moment of all-time.... the combining two of my favorite past-times, vintage cards and a cold one.
