1869 Harpers full paper with Cincinnati Red Stockings Team image and more

I recently picked up this really great item with images of baseball’s first ever professional baseball team; the Cincinnati Red Stockings with great images of baseball HOF pioneers, George and Harry Wright.

Love the “picked 9” story as well - “Hurrah for Pokopolitans!” (Whatever that means 🤣)

I had another of these in similar condition recently and it sold quickly for $1299. I am asking the same in cash and also open to trades of vintage baseball cards as well.

Thanks for taking a look -

Jeff

Thirty years after Cincinnati's 1788 founding, Elisha Mills established the first modern meat-packing plant in the city. His barrels of brine-filled pork contributed to a powerful national appetite for salt pork and started an industry that earned the city its nickname, Porkoplis, by the 1830s. - WCPO Story

********
Why was Cincinnati called Porkopolis?

Steamboats were repaired and built in the city. It became a meatpacking center, where livestock was slaughtered and butchered and sold in Cincinnati or shipped. Cincinnati became known as the "Porkopolis" when it became the pork-processing center of the country.

Nice image. As an FYI- if not aware you can find the checklist for Harper’s Woodcuts in The Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards Volume I by Lew Lipset. This would be number 6 of the 32 listed.
