Scherzer got a raw deal:

Suspended for 10 games for using rosin?

Phil Cuzzi is the umpire responsible for all three of the pitchers who have been suspended...something's fishy there.

Cuzzi is a bum.

Forever remembered as such by Twins fans--at least this fan.

And how many games did each of the Astros players who were involved in their pitch/sign stealing scandal get suspended for? And don't anyone dare say that is somehow different because they were granted immunity for agreeing to finally admit their guilt. That was pure BS on the part of MLB who couldn't afford to basically throw an entire team out of baseball. The hit to owner's pocketbooks wouldn't be nice, and can only imagine the disruption to the broadcasters and their sponsors/advertisers, along with the potential lawsuits for breach of contracts and resulting loss of revenue issues, and so on. Plus, we all know damn well that the Player's Union would have mounted a tremendous suit to fight MLB and the Commissioner's office as well, and at the end of the day, the only party(ies) coming out on top would have been the attorneys walking away with millions of dollars in their pockets.

And speaking of people getting tossed from games and suspended for alleged illegal substance being used, guess how many times in his career Gaylord Perry, notorious for alleged throwing of spitballs, was actually ejected from a game for supposedly doing so, and what was found on, or done to, the ball?

As per the crime and punishment by/to Scherzer, sounds like another case of an umpire who needs to be sat down and told that he is not the one that people pay money to come and see.

The rule needs to be clarified, rosin is legal but a pitcher cannot use too much. The rule doesn't define what is too much. If they thought he was using an illegal substance, why did they give him a chance to wash it off in front of a MLB official? Makes no sense.

+1 Agree. The rules should be better defined if possible and then if the pitcher is caught he is ejected and suspended.

Knowing Max he probably played by the rules Rosin and Sweat but probably pushed the rules to get an advantage with the amount he used and they got busted.

I wonder if it would be better if each starting pitcher got an even amount of rosin and they can use as much as they want of it whenever they want but once they are out of Rosin then they get no more.
