Picked up Butch Schmidt in Clean Sweep auction. Well known as member of the Miracle Braves, more interesting to me is that he played 1 game for NYAL n 1909

Are those snapshots Victor Starfin? If so 😯!
Many years ago I started building an autograph collection of the 1971 Pirates. I wanted a comprehensive collection that was comprised of the manager, coaches, and every player who wore the uniform for at least one game. I also wanted to collect the Team President, GM, Trainer, clubhouse manager, team physician, team photographer, the Traveling Secretary, and the owner. There were 50 autographs I needed to accomplish this. The first 46 were relatively easy. However It took many years to find the final four. In the last few weeks I finally landed John Galbreath (Owner) Tom Fitzpatrick (Traveling Sec.) John Hallahan (Clubhouse mngr) and Dr. John Finegold (Team Physican). These are the only examples I have seen of these autographs. Im also certain that I was the only fool hunting for them on a daily basis for the past 4 years. |

They are Bromides, I would say they are the equivalent to an American Picture pack, is the best way to compare them. Professional photos, Not unique fan shot images. Made to sell. I’m not sure why, but in my snapshot journey it seems that Japan simply didn’t take fan photos prior to the 70s/80s. You would think seeing candid shots of Sadaharu Oh on deck or being waved to look at fans cameras would be like finding snaps of Ruth, abundant. But I have never seen a single snapshot of any professional Japanese player on a field from a period where Americans did it so frequently. Maybe it is (or was) a cultural thing. Great accomplishment by the way. |
