1888 N28 Cap Anson Grade Revealed....Scan Added
2 Attachment(s)
Well I decided to submit my N28 Anson and the grade popped today. Here is a raw scan. What do you think it received? I will post a scan when I receive it back. The reverse back is the upper right in the back scan.
Thanks, Bob Attachment 563098 Attachment 563099 |

I'll go with a 2. No creases so that's nice. Overall very presentable. Nice card.
|
If there’s a stain lower right back I would guess a 1.5. If no stain then looks like 2.5. Nice card!
|
Any chance the Anson will be hitting the B/S/T forum in the near future? If so, I would appreciate a heads up when you list it. Nice looking cards! I would also say PSA 2.

No stain on the reverse.
This will not be on the B/S/T any time soon. I am thinking of completing the set in low grade. Pretty good start for sure. Thanks, Bob |
I will guess a 2.
|
I’ll take under and say 1.5 but killer eye appeal over grade. Nice card.

Nice looking card. No clue what it will grade, but I think it should be a 3-3.5 given that it’s 135 years old and looks that good. It doesn’t look much unlike this 3.5
|
Yes they look close but mine has better centering. From what I understand, most have the bat close to the upper border. I am looking forward to having it in hand.
Thanks, Bob |
With how their grading is lately I would guess a 1.5 if not a 1. It's a great card and yes you don't see many with so much space with the bat and the top of the card.
|
2, though I would consider it a 3.
|
depends which company, grader, day and time??
This card came back a 2.5?--in my opinon although off center appears nicer? So anyone's guess??
|
Beautiful group
|
please take note of missing printing
on a couple of letters in the word "Allen" at the base - ostensibly from a soaking. All said and done 1.5 about right.
|
2.5 looks perfect to me... honestly, that's a nice grade on such an old card. Really a highlight card in many collections. Congratulations!!
|
2.5 if the grader is having a good day.
|
To clarify, I do not think the card will get a 3.5. I would guess 2. But I think that would be a crap result given how good it looks for being 135 years old and given similar looking cards have received 3-3.5 grades in past.
Bottom line, it’s a great looking card. |
Looks like a 3
|
1.5-2
I'll go 2 for eye appeal
|
My vote is a 1.5 (Fair)
|
"2" is my guess but looks lots nicer...
That's a great card and way better than the average 2.... nice centering, clear/well focused image, no apparent creases and tons of space above the bat. Really bugs me when the bat touches the top border, and this is the best I've seen in that regard. |
If the grade popped, what is it?? Did I miss it?
|
I was going to post a scan....but it was graded a PSA 2.5
I thought it might get a 3 but expected a 1 because I know how tough they are now. So getting a 2.5 was nice to see. It probably would have gotten a 3 a few years ago. The Caruthers and Bennett are in grading right now and the Comiskey and Kelly will be sent in shortly. Thanks, Bob |

Cap
Grading too inconsistent But I say 1.5 to a 2
|
Grading changes every year and collectors still have the pre-pandemic eyes for their wishy-washy standards. With the current trends of grading I leaned toward 2, but am pleasantly surprised by your 2.5.

He sure looks nice in a PSA Slab
By the way. There is no paper loss on the reverse.....just light printing. Bob Attachment 564970 Attachment 564971 |
Nice , cap is undervalued

Anson
Great card! Fairly graded as a PSA 2.5. PSA has been so tough lately I thought you were going to complain about something lower than 2.5. Thanks for sharing!
|
Are you keeping the card or is it going off to REA?
|
Gorgeous example! I think they got it right on that one. Definitely a good looking card with fantastic front eye appeal.
|
Great card, great grade!! Looks good in the holder!

Are you keeping the card or is it going off to REA?
I was going to put the set together......but with college tuition the way it is I may have to send it off tor REA or another auction house. My son has 1 more semester for his degree in Cinematography from Temple University and wants to further his education with a degree in Economics. Would REA be the best for this type of card? I would love for it to pay for a semester but who knows..... Thanks, Bob |
Interesting looking at the comps on the PSA website, this would seem to be a $3-4k card roughly. But i would add that PSA seems to routinely overgrade other samples by ignoring the top/bottom centering problem where so many N28 Anson’s have the top of the bat almost touching the border. This example looks so much nicer top/bottom. There is even a PSA 9(!) with the no top border that sold for $111k!!! Yikes.
