I do not recall the pitcher or the team but I seem to recall year a rookie that had a great WS against the Yankees in one of the Series in the early 40's but I not 100% sure

Great question So if it was St Louis that would make the series Yankees vs St. Louis in 1942 I believe. Only ST Louis pitcher I can recall is Max Lanier and I think he might have won one of the games. But he was not a rookie. Hopefully someone else has better knowledge them me |
