Whitney w/Dog Old Judge

Seemed like very strong prices in last night's Heritage auction. I put in some very aggressive bids on a few but didn't win anything. I was following the Old Judge Whitney and Dog SGC 4 card and saw this morning it went for over $17k with the juice. And totally get this is a popular card but truly WTF is going on. That is nuts!

That is a ridiculous price for that card. That said, Old Judge prices have been very strong of late and, given their relative scarcity and growing collector base, it is a trend that could continue.

Was going to post about the price for the Whitney too. That card has a great image but I thought it went for about 10k more than I would have expected

This is the one card I really beat myself up over not buying. I love that little dog.

Meant to say I regret not buying an example sooner when I had the chance. Not this specific card at auction.

It's not that rare. There will be many more for sale. Great card though and wish I had one (maybe in the future again). I agree about the example being talked about. Quite expensive, but then again, it's a stellar photo on it.

The image contrast is fantastic, but I find the dots on his hand/sleeve to be a detracting feature. I thought the dots were on the photo negative perhaps?

Here is the card in question. Who doesn't love a cute 'paw up' looking-up-at-his-human-companion doggy card?

The centering of the Whitney/Dog card along with the nice image (if you disregard the imperfections on Whitney's left hand) makes it a nice example of this card. However, I was surprised to see the card sell for over $17K with the BP. Apparently someone really wanted it. I wonder what that does to the price of other examples of that card in better/worse conditions.

There was another OJ in that auction with a final price that "kind" of surprised me. After the card was outed in another thread, I figured the price would escalate a little bit. The card being referenced is the Deasley OJ with the Washington team designation that isn't shown in the OJ Bible. The card has OUTSTANDING image quality (graded SGC5) and sold for over $2600 with BP. Some people might debate the price was due to the image quality, but I'm guessing it had more to do with the team designation.

At least two people, actually.

Very happy with my 1887 Type B. Agreed, crazy price. Cute dog though.

And yet I managed to snag the Duke Tobacco cabinet of Billy Nash for about a quarter of what the winning bidder paid for Whitney and his pooch.
