1902 American Lithograph color/pigment and other plate prints

I was able to pick up a group of American Lithograph plate prints from 1902 including among others a color and pigment print.

The color and details on these are amazing they were found loose in a large box of ephemera from an estate sale. The backs of the prints are blank except for some transfer from the previous page.
The fish and birds are very similar to some of the tobacco series from the early 1900's.

Awesome find. I think some of these are the exact same image used for the N8 and T58's, just higher quality and some different colors than what was for the cards. Red Grouper, for example.

The Century was a magazine. I have a few, and now I'll have to check if any of mine have plates like that.

The stuff along the sides is just like the way that magazine was bound. They're usualy well over 1/4 inch thick.

I got a huge bunch of old magazines from a guy who published a nostalgia magazine. It's possible that I have some damaged copies that he cut articles out of.

Hi Steve, yeah I knew that they were a publishing company that also put out a monthly magazine. I don't know if they came from one of their monthly magazines or if they came from something that American Lithograph had the Century Company do for their use at their different facility's.

I thought if the were from a magazine or book that there would be printing on both sides like these images I found from a 1902 Century Magazine.

They aren't always double sided. Some were like book plates, and now I'm thinking of it I wonder if they're book plates from something published by Century. The cloth reinforcement on one would be more like a book than a magazine.

A few years ago I knew old magazines really well having bought hundreds of them. Haven't really looked at them in years and I've forgotten a lot.

I picked up another 1902 plate print and this one is from the Julius Bien Lithography Co also out of NY. It's very similar to the American Lithograph
print.

Greg and I have found evidence that suggest that some of the lithograph company's might have worked together back then and it looks like the same plates were used on some of these fish (Tarpon and Kingfish).

Or at least the same original art.

The Tarpon is too different to be the same plates or masters. But I'm sure it shares the same basic source.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting. I used to own several print plate type items. Not any longer though.
