I just now had a PM about this one. He gave a good user id, 1966Cuda, but is no where close to that person. Just because they give a good ID doesn't mean they aren't a scammer. If there is anything at all that makes anyone leery please check with me to make sure the ID is the real person that owns it. Caveat emptor

I posted a thread a week ago about a scammer interaction; I think it was same guy as DJ just experienced. The gateway is your email address. Do not provide it. Make them contact you by net54 PM first. If they are not real, they cannot PM you

Absolutely true.
And I want to point out that just because they PM you doesn't mean they aren't necessarily a scammer. IT just means they haven't been banned yet, once they snuck under the door.

They wanted me to send $ to estherwanjiru763@yahoo.com. Keep that in mind moving forward.

3-2-count 11-26-2022 02:29 PM

Well, after 35 years of collecting I finally got scammed here on the b/s/t a couple days ago and if was by the guy (or gal) that Don mentions here in post #1.

I was in a rush heading out the door and before I caught on to what was going on I’d sent this crook $90 bucks via PP FF for an Obak common that he sent me a scan on.

Their PayPal address was - marynyagothi@yahoo.com

I’m actually disappointed in myself as I should have known better, but got caught with my guard down for just a few seconds while in a rush. Dammitt!!!!

That is bizarre that the same email address is using multiple paypal addresses because the screenshot that Don mentions is one that i sent him. Was paypal able to help you recover that $90

Since it was sent via PayPal FF and not straight PayPal unfortunately no. Big mistake by me.

This shit makes me sick.

spartygw 11-26-2022 03:21 PM

Hmm, I just got a series of emails from this guy. I was just trying to help someone out by posting pics for him and now I see this. Disappointing.

+1

It is awful.

Seiklis 12-09-2022 02:57 PM

Yup just tried to get me too

Beginning posts seemed very off. Wouldn't give me a username when I asked so I'm glad I looked this up first

Thought it was too good a deal

Paypal he sent me was Clydeshira25@gmail.com

Leon 12-09-2022 03:09 PM

That scammer in the first post, actually got someone for $60 just last week....the member said he was in a hurry and took total responsibility. Cheap learning lesson on that one...

Terrible stuff. So sorry it happened. One reason I never, ever use PPFF nor to I allow buyers to use it.

jjbond 12-09-2022 05:26 PM

I had a scammer PM me here, my first (and only) reply to my first "wanted" post. He kept sending me images of cards asking what I'd offer for them. But I could track down the cards to their sources (PSA #s are so convenient!), and knew it wasn't real (that, plus the bad grammar in his writing were good tipoffs.....)

I won't use it either. If it's the only option for payment I just skip on by even if it's a person that has made many deals on this site. There's been a few cards that I wanted to bid on or by that I passed on.

Selling and getting paid PayPal FF-(get banned)

Selling and getting paid PayPal FF-a collector buddy was selling at a show getting money funneled and paid through PayPal friends and family--Apparently PayPal detectives didn't like $75.000 plus in payments with NO FEES--He was banned from any future transactions-- don't really know how PayPal screens FF deals?

I wonder if PayPal then hands off that info to the IRS.

Eugene Petersons is another fraud buyer who tried to use my user name to reach out to my buyer posing as me. Leon has since blocked but just a heads up just in case he finds another way in

Me Peterson(s), lol tried to contact me as well with some severely overpriced T209 cards. He had pulled scans from eBay just pure laziness!

If I was going to be a scammer I would definitely use a name like Peterson over Whichiewichie

Wichiewichie: "Would you like to buy these prewar cards?"

Sorry, I see you typed something, but all I'm getting from it is "Ooo-eee-ooo-aahh-aahh, ting-tang, walla-walla bing-bang".

CurtisFlood 02-23-2023 09:16 AM

These guys (scammers) need to be permanently eliminated. They are the scum of the earth.

atx840 02-23-2023 10:54 AM

I ran a test over a two month period via BST posts and was contacted by multiple scammers trying to sell me very valuable cards, ones friends owned and even one of my own cards. :D

I went back and forth for weeks with them, messing up payment details on purpose until they gave up.

The pattern they use is a name then a number in their email. Beware!

Probably a little heavy handed an approach, but could we block the @ sign from being typed on Net54? It'd be a really good reminder not to put your email address out there. Maybe add it to the "bad word" filter?

Obviously, you'd want to be able to use it in PM's, but not in forum posts.

LOL, mine is also my name and 3 numbers and has been for a very long time.

Harliduck 02-27-2023 03:34 PM

FYI..."Eugene Petersons" is still at it. Put up a "WTB" thread in the 50's BST and was hit with an overpriced email almost immediately (and dang, I really need that 1953 Dormand Ed Lopat!!). I hadn't read that putting up an email address was garnering scammers...so lesson learned and post edited...put his name in the search as there wasn't much info on the email and found this post. Thanks for those giving the warnings. PM only from now on...always learning. Email deleted.

Bobsbats 02-27-2023 04:23 PM

Scammer got me a year or so ago. I made the mistake of putting my email address in my post. I received a couple of replies, one was for 50.00 and I sent it...still no card, the other I contacted Leon about and he told me to be very cautious and to ask for their Network54 ID. I did just that. The funny part is, they replied with a user ID of SB1....:) Which even I knew was Scott Brockelman.

Don't post an email address and I think you can avoid 75% of these dirtbags.

If Wichiewichie is from Weeki Wachee, watch out, but if Peterson is from St. Petersburg it’s okay. Thanks Al.

Crazy names are a giveaway for them being a scammer. These potential email scams are still happening almost daily. If someone messages you about a sale, and they aren't a familiar name, please check their user profile first. If they have 50+ posts they aren't a scammer. There could still be a bad deal go on, but they aren't a scammer. Most of these scammers have 0-5 posts. Keep being careful!!

And a few random BF3s...I like the bright colors.

wondo 03-17-2023 11:00 AM

Peter sons just reached out to me via email with a stolen Zbysko eBay scan at a ridiculous price. Be careful out there.
