1948 Leaf Baseball Album

I have been trying to figure out what this might be worth but have only found sales that aren't relevant because they have the cards included - and one empty one currently listed on Ebay for $4k). It has the original mailing envelope, the covers are in very good shape, the first several pages are a bit ripped but the last several are in good shape.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

No idea on the value, but I'm trying to figure out what the ballplayer on the cover is doing. My guess is it is a reverse image of a middle infielder turning a double play.

Cool item.

I love that you have the original mailing envelope. I geek out over things like that.

A 1949 LEAF Album (in nice shape) sold for 1500 about a year ago.

But, who knows, in this era of Inflation.....anything goes.

Excuse me for correcting you....but, this LEAF set of 98 baseball cards (and this Album, and the LEAF Premiums) were issued in 1949.

Cool item.

Or tagging third and throwing home, but your guess is probably correct.

I like how the coloring on the album cover is even cruder than on the cards.

I was wondering about that. I haven't followed it closely, but has it been settled whether the Leaf issue was 1948, 1948-49 or 1949?

Though some of the cards showed 1948 copyright dates, I believe it has since been determined the cards/set were not actually sold/distributed prior to early in 1949, which should make it a 1949 set. Always believed a set should be dated based on when it was first actually issued/sold, not necessarily on when it was copyrighted.

Graig Kreindler painted the Jackie card for someone. The original card is one of the ugliest ever, IMHO, but his version is gorgeous. Something was definitely lost in the printing.

Thanks Ted, I appreciate the reference point. Do you remember where it was and if it had the mailing envelope?

And no need to apologize for the correction, I appreciate it!
