PSA 3 Wagner Cracker Jack rounding third...

1 Attachment(s)
If home plate is considered to be the bottom right corner of this Cracker Jack Wagner, then Honus is rounding third and headed for home.

It is a nice looking Cracker Jack, but do cards that have such an extreme rounded corner like this one typically warrant a VG grade? I vote preferential treatment for whoever submitted it for grading.

Seems like an extremely generous "3" considering a tiny pinhole is usually an automatic "1" from PSA. You could probably fit 15 pinholes in the chunk missing from that card.

Good point. I think this card will, if submitted, qualify to be part of my "Chunk Missing" thread.

Agreed but Still a great card that will look nice in any collection.

Nice card! I would guess that the corner broke of this card at some point due to the condition sensitivity of this issue…they are paper thin. After the break it likely re-rounded over time before being submitted for grading. Many 1914 CJs have small or even large breaks / chips.

Old slab, but I've always thought in general that prewar gets preferential treatment in mid-low grade over postwar. For example, you will see many slabs of T206 cards and especially older flips where a card that is given a 5 will have corners way more rounded than what would typically be allowed on a postwar 5. I've never understood this.

I would guess a short period of time.

This is my Wagner that I scanned before I sent it to PSA. It came back a 3.

+1.

Add to the, "chunk" thread, lol!
Great catch and thread, Brian.

Not all
Flaws carry the same weight. That said a 3 is generous.

Stupidly generous. Why is a pinhole an automatic 1 and yet a card can be missing a huge portion of a corner and get a 3?? haha. Makes no sense.

notfast 10-25-2022 08:41 AM

I wonder when these 904- PSA cards were graded.

I have some missing corner cards like this that are 1’s but a green Cobb that got a 1.5. 3 is too generous.

rand1com 10-26-2022 05:32 AM

It is an old holder but if you look at PSA 3 examples that have been sold in VCP, no others are even close to looking like this card.

In today's environment, the card gets a 1 or 1.5 IMO.

T205 GB 10-26-2022 06:32 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if a fellow member was the submitter.

Card warrants an A all day by all grading standards from the least popular to the most popular grading service.

rand1com 10-26-2022 07:08 AM

It would get a numerical grade IMO, just not a 3!

I see no reason it would be graded Authentic.

Has it been trimmed, recolored, etc.? I see no proof of that in the picture.

There is proof it is over graded IMO due to the one corner.

Still, a rare card that most collectors of this set would be thrilled to own.

Here is another rounded corner 14 CJ PSA 3 (not mine) for your consideration

Two jagged sides...a PSA 5...really?
(not my card)

I didn't feel great about buying this '14 CJ Speaker PSA 3 when I did, because I felt that chip on the top left corner made it a weaker 3. But I guess in comparison to other 3's which have been shown, it appears to be a pretty strong card for the grade!

Checking out this thread's cards, my 1914 Meyers may just have a chance for PSA 2.
