I need some help on this Jimmy Collins Photo --I have seen this image of Collins--but not sure if a Cabinet or Photo etc. Horner's name is on back--size is around 5x9--I included front an back scans--any help or info would help. thanks, Don

Appears to be a Carl Horner photo that was used for a publication.

Why do you believe it to be from 1903? I've seen this image before, but don't recall it being that old.

The uniform reminds me of the one for Cy Young on his 1909 E90-1 card.

Derek, I think is dated to 1903 because it is the image used on the 1904 World Champions large team composite, made after their 1903 season. I am a little puzzled about it not being on a Horner mount among other things I relayed to Don.

Collins image was also used for Boston scorecard covers in 1905.

Gotcha! And agreed on the final statement.

I believe that this Collins image is from 1902 or 1903.

I am sure that Bruce can correct me if I am wrong, but weren't Boston's "B A" uniforms a one year style? I thought it was 1902 or possibly 1903.

Cy Young's 1909 E90-1 card is based off his famous Horner cabinet. It is interesting to note, that the "B As" on their 1902 uniforms were actually blue in color, but the American Caramel company took some liberties and changed them to red to create a very striking card.

Graig Kreindler's phenomenal painting shows the accurate colors from the day.

Images taken from the web.

Kevin, yes, that is the composite I referred to and yes, I believe it was only 1902, I confirmed on dressed to the nines website.

Certainly appears it might be the mock up for the team composite, which would make it a little more desirable, but still not in the area of a Horner cabinet.

Not likely the mock up as that is a full image with Horner’s name on it. The silvering is sloppy, the mount is grey, a color mostly used later, every Horner cabinet I have seen has been on an identified Horner mount among other things. I admit, I no longer collect Horners but I would be very surprised if this was as issued or used for the composite.
