Framed collectibles involving broken glass question?

I recently won a Cleveland Browns Goal Line HOF setup from clean sweep. There are around 12 or so cards, all signed by Browns greats from the past. I was about to hang it up today, when I noticed that the glass was broken. UPS handled the shipping poorly. My question is this...

If you had a piece like this, would you pay the added cost to get it re-glassed, or is the cost too prohibitive? I can pull all the cards out and sell them all individually, but I was wanting to keep it intact since it appeared to be so nice, but the added cost of around $200 (I am guessing) to get it re-glassed is not something I was expecting. Should I keep it intact or break it up?

Are you planning to keep them? If so, get it re-glassed. The cards look so much nicer presented together than they would individually.

If you're selling, you almost always get a higher return when you sell individually.

I was planning on keeping them. I was going to hang it in my mancave. I wasn't expecting the broken glass however.

Fix it. It will likely bother you until you do. You bought the piece bc you liked and wanted it, I would think broken glass would detract

I would also get it fixed. Any future Brown HOFers will not be GLA cards and wouldn't look right matched with those. It looks great the way it is.

If you bring it to a local frame shop (not a chain like Michael's etc) I suspect it will be cheaper than you imagine also.

I agree with getting it redone

Bobby pay a bit extra & get UV coated glass, if not the sigs may fade over time especially in a well lit room

This.

Such a cool piece it would be a shoot not have it hanging. And the UV resistant glass is a good investment

I vote to get yours done, Bobby.
When I received this quite large, approximately 28" x 27" in total, Horner Composite the glass was broken into lots of pieces. My heart sank but fortunately the photo was spared. I had the best UV glass I could find, put in from a higher end art seller with a retail shop, that does framing too. Worth every penny and more and wasn't expensive anyway.
(not a very good picture of it)

Have Clean Sweep file an insurance claim on your behalf. If it was damaged in shipping it should be the auction house's responsibility to make it right.

Most auction houses have a disclaimer about not being responsible for frames/glass.

Framed items without glass fine. It's a matter of protection.

This ^^^ ....what a cool piece Leon. I decided to get it re-glassed. The price I was quoted was WAYYYYYYYY less than what I was expecting. (Under $70)...and that is with UV glass.

Since you're going to keep it and have it on display, definitely get it re-glassed but make sure it's a good UV glass. Best thing to do is to look on the internet for some local framers. A lot of times you find a mom and pop place that gets great reviews and will do the work for a reasonable cost.

Do what Jay said up there about uv glass... but it'll be much more not a bit more. You want archival protection, otherwise your mancave light will eventually bleach those cards, the ink will fade.

I use a local art house. They tend to be wayyyy cheaper than chains like Michael's.
