An Extraordinary Curator of History

With great sadness I share the news that Steve Kennedy passed away this week. He was an extraordinary and tireless historian of the game; over the past 40 years Steve assembled the hobby’s finest collection of 1939 Baseball Centennial Memorabilia.

He was passionate about researching and documenting the many unique items in this tremendous collection, which he generously shared through his website: www.1939baseball.com. Steve will be deeply missed by the many collectors whose lives he touched.

Did not know him, but a very impressive specialized collecting focus which culminated in a spectacular historical collection.

It was a great centennial. While I don't have anything near as spectacular as his collection, I do have some 1939 stuff, up to and including the Yankees' 4 game World Series sweep of the Reds and their 4th straight championship. Sad, as Lou Gehrig's streak came to an awful end. This collection is THE on-line museum to 1939 baseball. It was very good of him to make it available for all to see. RIP...

Condolences to Steve's family

Sad to hear of Steve's passing.

Our paths crossed many years ago while I was antiquing in NH looking for early baseball, and I stopped in a shop he owned. I was aware of his specialized collecting niche ever since that meeting.

My condolences to his family,

Patrick
