Honus Wagner Photo on Ebay

It was listed as an auction, then the buyer must have made an offer the seller couldn't refuse, so ended it early.

Sold it for $2500.

Would it have gone for more had the auction played out?

I think that an easy $4000-$6000 photo

Wow! Nice score then for the buyer, wonder if that was anyone here.

Can those markings on the photo, around his head be removed by someone, or would that have to be sent to an expert to remove that?

I'm assuming they would want that removed, if it can be removed cleanly.

Almost certainly can be removed. Yes.

The Ruth went to auction for 7 days and did $2100.

Would have liked to seen these 2 photos go head to head and see which one would have did better.

Have to think the Wagner, as Yankee Ruth's are more plentiful. A Ruth Red Sox however would be another story.

If I’m not mistaken those markings around his head were placed by the newspaper editors so that the photo would appear clearer.

I thought that Wagner photo looked familiar. It was used on his 1917 National Police Gazette cover…

Thanks, picked it up years ago on eBay. There’s still great finds on eBay from time to time!
