John M. Ward pose run

I don't post often on this forum, but I thought people may like to see a completed John Montgomery Ward N172 run. Huge shout out to Jay Miller (Old Judge) for helping me complete this run. Without his help this would not have been possible.

Great cards, Keith. It is quite an accomplishment to finish an Old Judge HOF pose run, and doing it for such an important figure in 19th century baseball makes it even more special.

Stunning! Something to aspire to... :)

Wow! Well done! Ward is one of my favorite 19th century ball players.

That's great! I'm sure it is rewarding to finish the run. Trent King

That's a great run. Congrats. I especially like the sliding pose.

incredible! You have a great eye for OJ cards with great contrast. Those are my fave.

So many great poses! My favorite is the in action sliding (graded 3 card) photo at the bottom/center.

I agree with the others, a fantastic run !!

Nice assortment of years as well . . . 4 from 1887, 4 from 1888 (3Fa, 1Fb), and 1 from 1889. You just need to add the yet to be discovered 1890 variant :) (good luck!)

oldjudge 10-26-2022 02:19 PM

Yes, an 1890 Brooklyn Ward would be the cherry on top (and would also revise all our thinking about 1890). I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

alywa 10-26-2022 02:35 PM

If neither of you have a 1890 (PL) I'm guessing one doesn't exist. That said, a man can dream ;)

Joe_G. 10-26-2022 05:17 PM

Another neat detail on pose 5 . . . your 1888 Fb appears to show the 1887 leading zero number in upper right. Pretty uncommon to see this.

oldjudge 10-26-2022 08:53 PM

Only four of the eight Player's League teams had cards made in 1890 (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago) before the tobacco trust was formed and the card presses screeched to a halt. Ward was on the Brooklyn team, appropriately called Ward's Wonders, and they didn't make the deadline.
Good catch by Joe on the "0" number Fb. The production crew missed cleaning that negative.
