Fake T213-1 LaPorte on Ebay COMC - Daniel Desmond Card?
 

There is a card up on Ebay right now that reminds me a lot of the fakes that Daniel Desmond made/sold several years ago:

I believe these were made by removing the backs from T206 and then reprinting the Coupon back. He made a bunch of T206 too, though I think the bad ones always had paper still affixed to the back.

Yes, a fraudulent Desmond special. Pretty darn good fakes except the ink on the back is newer ink, from the 1980s or so (I believe). That was the conclusive test Andy B. came up with. He now heads the CSG grading. He did a great job identifying these.

Nice find Pat! Thanks for posting that. What was the sale date of that card?

Waz - not sure about Helm. The T206 from Daniel I recall all had paper on the backs - likely to hide the fact that the paper was thinner from his back removal. The thin paper didn't need to be hidden for T213-1s as they are printed on thin paper.

Glad you mentioned this one Josh. I was thinking the same thing with the lighter edge wear...

Very much leaning towards fake on the Hindu. Look at the white protruding on the corners.

Was the T206 a recent sale? I ask because if it was it seems to indicate that someone has recently taken up making fake Coupon type 1's.
Or was this a T206 known to have been purchased by desmond?

It was purchased in 2017 which is the same timeframe as the other Desmond fakes.

Yea - I saw that one too and it instantly jumped out to me as a fake. When I looked at it more, I wondered if it was shellacked, and if so, sometimes where the shellac comes off, it reveals a preserved part of the card - making it look lighter - but still, I'd lean towards fake.

Here is the eBay listing I just won. It is the exact card that is pictured. It is in authentication now. I also read that it was rejected by CSG.
