Can Post cereal cards be soaked?

I picked up a large group of 1961 & 1963 Post Cereal cards but many of them have scrap paper and glue on the backs.

Had anyone tried soaking them before?

I am not sure I would try that. I have seen Post cereal cards with obvious water staining that have become separated meaning the cardboard part of the card has become detached from the image/front portion which is nothing more than 10-15 LB glossy paper.

Soaking might not be worth the risk to remove residue off of a blank back.

I agree that completely soaking them is not the best idea. Years ago I had some Diamond Stars that had been glued with those corner tabs into a photo album or something. I just used a very light amount of water on a paper towel... didn't want to let it soak thru to the front of the card. Dab it on a little at a time just on that area. Had to work with them a little as there were different levels of glue on each card. Was successful getting them all removed. Some left staining but they presented much better.

Good luck if you try it!

Soaking

Hi Tim.
If you soak them too long, the front of the card will separate from the cardboard back. This doesn't seem to happen with Jell-O or Post Canadians, just the regular Post Cereal cards. But that may not be completely correct.
If it's a water soluable glue, they shouldn't need to soak too long. I would say, put them in a saucer of water, front side up. Maybe a minute would be enough to work on the water soluable glue.
Of course, experiment with the least valuable cards 1st.
Good luck.

I agree with Wayne. Post cereal cards will separate.
