Hi Leon. I’d easily choose the 1.5 over the 4, hands down!
|
I like the centering and the corners on the 1.5
I would take either but if I had to choose the 1.5 would be the first choice |
Not a fan of the diamond cut...but the 1.5 corners almost look trimmed imho
|
Tough call. I really dislike T206's in that darn baggie. It's annoying & takes away from the eye appeal. The 1.5 is a nicer looking card, but I'd rather have a 4 for my collection despite the badly off center/cut card.
|
Easy for me. 1.5 all day long.

I'd go with the 1.5 only because centering is one of the very few things I'm OCD about.

My centering OCD says 1.5, I couldn't stomach any card in my collection miscut as bad as the 4.
|
I dislike drastic diamond cuts, so I'd vote for the 1.5.

The 1.5- Trent King

Oh wow, that 1 all day. Presentation and centering is incredible.
|
1.5 for me without question.

Of course, if the criteria is by the number, the 4 beats a 1.5. . |

The 1.5 looks short to me, just saying. But aesthetically, I think the 1.5 is nicer- the diamond cut on the 4 is brutal
|
Leon - what’s driving the 1.5 designation? It looks like there might be some scratches to the surface that are primarily showing in the red background. But maybe there are other features that are driving it down?

The 1.5 and it's not even close. Beautiful card!
|
I know it's not an option, but give me the image & background of the "4" with the framing of the "1.5" and that's the card I'd want to complete my set of T206 Cobbies!

I mean, they both have their flaws, and I guess it’s a question of whether those are flaws that you can live with. I would be inclined to keep looking to find another piece that didn’t have these specific flaws. I would be hopeful that a PSA 4 could be found with better centering and less tilt. |
Give me the 4...I'll sell it, but the 1.5 (which I like better anyway) and pocket the difference!!! JT

Hi Leon,
I can't vote without knowing the conditions of both cards. So many people are getting trained to buy 3 dimensional objects based on how they look on their iPhones or laptops. Call me old school but I'd like to know why the 1.5 is graded a 1.5? Obviously it has some defects. Are there hidden creases that don't show up on the 2 dimensional picture? Is there paper missing somewhere? Same with the PSA 4. Does it have a hidden crease? We always say buy the card, not the slab... how about we buy the card based on the actual card, not how it looks on our screens? |

I would select neither too if that was an option. If forced to pick, I would take the 4. The spider wrinkles would bother me more than the centering.

As far as I can tell, the condition issues are the ones that can be seen on the screen. I just grabbed the scan of the 4 from eBay, so don't know of hidden defects on it. The 1.5 has those spider wrinkles. The back could be discolored but I am not sure. So the answer is, I don't think there are hidden defects. . |
thanks for the description. If the prices aren't too far apart, I'd take the 4
|
Others have already commented on the spider wrinkles in the red background of the 1.5. These wrinkles are what my eyes immediately noticed when I first saw this card, and they bother me so much that I don't enjoy looking at this card. I do somewhat enjoy looking at the 4, despite its obvious flaws.

1.5

Disregarding value, this is a tough call. I generally prefer factory defects to damage, and I particularly love that super solid red background of the 4, but the 1.5 presents better at first glance. i'd probably take the 4 but that could change seeing them in person.
|
Without a doubt the 1.5
|
i agree the 1.5 is extremely nice for the grade, but given the clean surface, strong color, and relatively sharp corners, I'd easily prefer the PSA 4. I value the former more than centering.

Baseball cards Centering Centering Centering!!!!!
Real Estate location location location!!!! Brady Bunch Marsha Marsha Marsha!!!!!! |
Honestly, I don't like either one of them. The 4 is too OC and the 1.5 just looks trimmed on the top/bottom.
I'd pass on both, and keep looking. Steve |
I voted for the 4. Both look like nice cards to me. I shopped the HA auction last night, looking at Ruth's and Cobb's, but I ended up spending $41 + sales tax on an e102 Shean on eBay. It's not a Cobb, but I only spent $45.
|
Between the 2 I’d take the 4. But both have major flaws that I would avoid..

I should know, as that is my PSA 4...well, was my PSA 4...haha, I just sold it today on ebay. It certainly has a centering issue along with the diamond cut. Which is the main reason I never even bothered to list it on the BST here. ;) :D |
One or two people above said they thought the 1.5 looked short; I actually don't think it's trimmed. First, it has a very subtle diamond cut (obviously not as drastic as the 4), but the angle of the top border echoes the bottom. Also, as we know there was a wide range of sizes that came out of the factory, due to the way they were cut. So I think it's legit, and would be my choice over the 4...And, FWIW, over the years, I've noticed that many Red Cobbs tend to often look a little shorter than other cards (not trimmed, but "factory short"), but they rarely have large borders like some other T206 cards. Maybe because there's so many of them, we see such a wide range of sizes, not sure.

I'd opt for the 1.5 mainly due to centering.
|
I wouldn't even consider the 4 grade due to centering. If I was looking for a low grade I might bite on the 1.5 if the price was right.
|
The PSA 4 easily. The red background is amazing on it and not nearly as nice on the other.
